THIS SUNDAY!!

Back-to-School Sunday is Almost Here!

As we begin a new school year, we've created two meaningful ways for your family to prepare together.

Backpack Blessing (in your child's classroom)

Bring your child's backpack to church! Just like in previous years, our pastors will pray over the kids during the service, and each child will receive a special gift—a reminder all year long that they are loved, prayed for, and that God goes with them wherever they go.

Family Prayer Experience (The Front Yard- to the right of the Collide Kids building)

Before or after service, take about 10 minutes to walk through our self-guided Family Prayer Experience. As you visit each prayer station, your family will pray together over different parts of the upcoming school year—friendships, teachers, wisdom, courage, kindness, protection, and growing in your faith.

It's a simple but meaningful way to intentionally place the school year in God's hands and begin the season together as a family.

We can't wait to celebrate and pray with your family this Sunday!

In 1 Kings 17 there was a famine, and a prophet named Elijah trusted God to take care of him. God worked through a widow to provide food for Elijah as well as for her household. Like Elijah trusted God, we can have hope—meaning we trust that something good will happen—when we believe and follow God. Using play dough, invite your kids to spell out “hope” as a reminder that we can believe and trust God.

As a family, sit together and talk about what compassion means (recognizing the suffering of others then taking action to help.) Cut strips of paper and write one way your family can show compassion this week. Link the papers together using tape to make a paper chain and hang it somewhere visible as a daily reminder to show compassion.

This week we taught kids that Jesus had compassion on people in a crowd—He cared about them deeply. We need His compassion, too, and He gives it to us. God cares about us so much; He sent His only Son, Jesus, to make the way for us to have a relationship with Him. Spend time with your kids this week talking about compassion. Talk with your kids about ways to show compassion to friends, including telling them about Jesus.

“Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Our Theme verse says we will receive mercy and grace when we need it. What we need most is not more success, comfort, or control—it is God’s forgiveness and a relationship with Him. Like the Samaritan woman at the well, we all have made wrong choices and have sins that we would like to hide, but Jesus responds with grace. God’s grace and forgiveness are incredible gifts that refresh us like living water.

Kids learned this week that Jesus offered a Samaritan woman “living water.” This living water was a new relationship with God and forgiveness for the wrong choices she made. We all need God’s forgiveness. God knows everything about us, yet He loves us and wants to forgive us. Challenge your kids to drink eight glasses of water. Talk about how much we need water, but we need God’s forgiveness more.

Lead your family to play a game to remind them of the Bible story and of how God still meets needs and guides us through His Holy Spirit. Choose a family member to be the “guide” who holds the flashlight in a dark room while others close their eyes. Invite the guide to shine the light on a path and call out, “Follow the light!” Encourage your family to move slowly toward the light, listening for directions. Let each person take a turn being the guide. Remind your kids that we need God every day and that God guides us.

Our Bible story was about God guiding His people with a cloud by day and fire by night, reminding them that He was always with them and would provide what they needed. Today, God’s presence is with us through the Holy Spirit. The Israelites were broken and needed God; we need Him too. Talk with your kids about ways you depend on God each day. Thank Him for food at meals, for a place to rest at bedtime, and for family and friends who love you.

Take time today to pray as a family—talk and listen to God. Pray these four things:

Thank God for making you special, specifically listing things that are special about how God made you.
Ask God to help you to have strong faith and to follow Jesus closely.
Pray for one another.
Choose one or two other people to pray for—that they would know they are uniquely designed and very special to God.
