1. BECAUSE IF I LOVE GOD'S WORD, THEN I WILL READ IT (INDIVIDUALLY AND AS A FAMILY).
Psalm 119:97, 113, 163, 47, 127
97 Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
113 … I love your law.
163 … I love your law.
47 And I will delight myself in Your commandments,
Which I love.
127 Therefore I love Your commandments
More than [making money]!
2. BECAUSE IT'S ONLY BY GOD'S WORD THAT I (AND MY FAMILY) WILL KNOW GOD'S WILL FOR MY/OUR LIFE.
2 Peter 1:3, 19
3 … His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…
19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed…
Whether by spiritual principle or by a very clear and direct statement, God’s word has the answers to all these questions. God’s word contains wisdom and direction for every single thing that life will throw at you and your family.
3. BECAUSE IT'S GOD'S WORD THAT CONTAINS THE MYSTERIES OF SALVATION FOR EVERY PERSON IN YOUR FAMILY.
James 1:18
18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
1 Peter 1:23
23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.
The word of God contains the words of life that your family needs constant exposure to not only be saved, but to keep on being saved and grow closer to the one who saves.
4. BECAUSE THE HUSBAND AND FATHER HAS THE SPIRITUAL RESPONSIBILITY TO LEAD THE FAMILY, AND LEADING THE FAMILY IN BIBLE READING IS THE MOST SIMPLE WAY OF ENSURING THIS.
Ephesians 6:4
4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Ephesians 5:23
23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Genesis 18:19
19 For I (God) have known him (Abraham), in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”
Are there other ways of ensuring that you are spiritually leading your family? Yes. Some fathers are extraordinary and make it a habit of talking about the Bible with their families while they go down the road, when they do household chores, and whenever there is opportunity. Their children are very spiritually minded because of their efforts.
But for fathers and single mothers who don’t have this habit engrained in them, maybe they are embarrassed by their failing in this area, or they are intimidated by the idea of spiritually leading, they need something simple and routine. Any man can call his family together to read a chapter of the Bible and pray
