First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church Since 1886 our mission has been to be a Bible teaching church. As members of First Baptist we are believers and doers of the Gospel.

We strive to make all visitors feel welcome and hopefully make us their home.

Tuesday’s Truth – Would you like more grace from God? James 4:5-6 says, “Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” Humility is the precursor to receiving God’s grace.

Monday’s Manna – How can we tell if we are mature believers in Jesus Christ? James 3:2 says, “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” Our mouths tell the tale. The way we control our tongues shows how weak or strong we are. Believers who intentionally offend are weak.

Friday’s Faith – Who will be more severely judged by God? James 3:1 says, “My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.” Church leaders will be more harshly judged because they instruct and influence the laity. When preachers and teachers do and teach wrong, the church is impacted to a greater degree than from outside forces. The chief sins of church leaders are hypocrisy and apostasy. Sadly, not all are saved.

Wednesday’s Word – We love having it easy, but we fail to realize that we never reach our full potential until we are tested. Job learned that in Job 23:10. It says, “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Too often we settle for bronze or silver. God desires that we come out as gold. Stand the test, gain the triumph, and give your testimony.

Tuesday’s Truth – Is it possible to have the wrong religion? James 1:26-27 says, “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” Yes, it is possible to have the wrong religion. The true religion has God the Father which makes it necessary to have the Son of God. The culling process continues within the ranks of those who profess the Father and the Son. Proof of the right religion is in a godly lifestyle separated from the world.

Monday’s Manna – Why must the bible be a priority? James 1:21-22 says, “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Salvation comes only through God’s word when it is received within. Once received, the evidence is an obedient life to God’s word.
