01/06/2019
As we enter 2019 with amazement at how fast time seems to pass, there is an excitement and perhaps, some trepidation as we face the future. I want to give you thoughts from the Scripture and encourage you to believe God for great things in the coming year.
First, know that God has a solution for your challenges. If 2019 started out with a bang, or you encountered difficulties or even tragic news, please remember God loves you deeply and cares about your situation. Jesus understood we would encounter trials and tests, but He gives us an assurance of His strength for the journey. In John 14:1 He says, "“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me." And then again in verse 27 - "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
When the disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee and sailed into a fierce storm which threatened to sink their boat, Jesus was asleep. Matthew tells us they woke Him in a panic, but He calmed the storm with one word. He then asked the disciples, "Why are you so afraid?" Many times our fears far outweigh the reality of our challenges. Even in the midst of the reality of water filling the boat, and raging winds and angry waves, the presence of Jesus Christ is the answer. He has all authority and all power and has entrusted His name to us. Pray, speak, believe in His name and calm your storms, and let His peace rule your heart and mind. More next week.
