The Father Factor

Christian Fathers and the Ultimate Father
Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21, Psalm 68:5, 6

I'm extremely thankful God gave me a godly father. My dad came to Christ shortly before I did when I was seven, and we were both baptized the same Sunday evening.

Dad was a strong disciplinarian, which is not surprising since he had been a sergeant in the Marines in World War II. But he disciplined in love, and frequently quoted the passages we are going to examine this weekend that provide instructions for Christian fathers.

We will also consider those who do not have a father, either because of death, desertion, or abuse. For them, God is the ultimate father

The Christian’s Responsibilities

God’s saving Gospel places demands on Christians Romans 12:1-9

For the past several months, our church family has been investing our Sunday mornings in a study of the Book of Romans, where we have discovered that God has revealed Himself and His righteousness in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have learned that we possess salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus, and based on Romans 1:16, everyone who places their trust in Him has salvation.

But for those of us who have trusted Christ, now what? We have examined what the Bible says about sin, about justification, about sanctification, and about God's plan for Israel. But is there some effect our study should have on our lives?

Paul's point in chapters 12 through 16 is that salvation should transform our lives, and that transformation begins with a twofold responsibility: first to the head of the body, then to the body itself.

Our responsibility to the head of the body. Personal dedication, an act of presentation involves the total you, a life experience, the norm for Christian living. Number two, progressive transformation. Non-conformity to the world system, transformation through mind renewal, resulting in daily experience of his will. Roman numeral two, our responsibility to the body. Evaluate ourselves realistically, exercise our gifts properly, express love to each other.
