It is such a bittersweet time of year, isn't it? Watching the school year wind down always brings a mix of pride for how far everyone has come and a little tug at the heartstrings as we head into summer break.

As the Oklahoma sun starts to warm things up and the school year draws to a close, we find ourselves looking back with such full hearts. These kids have been such a blessing to all of us. They’ve brought a special kind of life, laughter, and light into this church, and we are just so grateful for every moment we’ve spent growing together in Christ.

Our theme this year was "Rooted and Ready," and that wasn't just a catchy phrase to us. It has been our deepest prayer and our daily mission. We’ve watched children lean into their faith, and we truly hope we’ve helped strengthen their roots so they run deep into the truth of God’s word.
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, overflowing with thankfulness."
— Colossians 2:6-7
As they head off into summer adventures—whether working a summer job, heading to the lake, or just enjoying some well-earned rest—we hope they stay ready. Ready to share His love, ready to stand firm in what they believe, and ready to see His hand at work in the world around them.

As we close out this year, our hearts are just overflowing with gratitude for our volunteers. We set out to help our youth get "Rooted and Ready," but we know that work wouldn't have been possible without your hands and your prayers. You have been a steady blessing to these kids and to us.

"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." — Galatians 6:9

Thank you for giving so freely of your time and your spirit. We hope you enjoy a peaceful summer of rest and refreshment. You’ve certainly earned it, and we can’t wait to serve alongside you again this fall.

To each of our students, take this time to refresh your spirits. Make those memories that make your heart smile, stay safe out there, and above all, stay close to the Lord. We are already counting down the days until we can welcome you back for more fellowship and worship next year.

Have a blessed, wonderful summer, everyone!

With much love and prayers,

Your Youth Ministry Family

From the Heat of the Trial to the Power of the Truth

It has often been said that life in Oklahoma requires a certain kind of grit. Whether it is facing down a spring storm or working a piece of land that requires more sweat than it does rain, we understand what it means to be put to the test. Sometimes those trials arrive in the form of a health scare, a strained relationship, or a heavy burden of the heart that feels like it might just be too much to carry.

However, the community at Wyandotte Friends Church is built on a different kind of hope. There is a deep, abiding understanding that the struggle someone is walking through this afternoon is not the end of their story. The Bible reminds us in James 1:12, "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him." Under the steady hand of the Lord, today’s difficult test is merely the preparation for tomorrow’s powerful testimony.

The very things that try our patience and challenge our faith are often the same tools God uses to reveal His strength. When a person leans on the Almighty during the dark hours, they aren't just getting through the day; they are gathering the evidence of His faithfulness. Eventually, the trial passes, and what remains is a story of grace that can light the way for someone else who is just starting their own difficult climb.

If you find yourself in the middle of a testing season, take heart and stand firm. The neighbors and friends at Wyandotte Friends Church are here to walk beside you, knowing that the pressure of today is refining a beautiful message for the future.

God is still in the business of turning trials into triumphs, and your story of endurance will one day be the encouragement someone else needs to hear.

The Strength to Stand

Out here in Northeast Oklahoma, folks know a thing or two about the wind and the
weather. They understand that when a storm is brewing, the first instinct is
often to hunker down and look after one’s own roof. It is a natural response, to be sure. But there is a deeper kind of strength found in the heart of this community—a strength that goes beyond mere self-preservation.

"Strong people not only stand up for themselves, they stand up for others too."

It has been said that the true measure of a person’s character is found in their willingness to reach into the shadows. It takes a certain kind of grit to dare to reach into the darkness and pull someone back into the light. Life can get heavy, and sometimes the shadows of worry, grief, or hardship grow long. In those moments, a Neighbor isn’t just someone who lives down the road; a neighbor is the one who notices when a porch light has gone dim and isn’t afraid to go knocking.

Real strength isn't found in a loud voice or a closed fist. Instead, it is found in the steady hand of someone who refuses to let a friend walk a hard path alone. Whether it is standing up against an injustice or simply standing beside someone who is weary, the call remains the same. We are reminded that we weren't put on this red dirt just to look out for number one.

As the community gathers this week, whether in person or in spirit, may everyone be encouraged to look around. There is always someone who could use a little extra light, and there is no shortage of strong shoulders in Wyandotte ready to help carry the load.

"Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2

Finding the Source of Real Joy

At Wyandotte Friends Church, there is a deep understanding that while happiness can often feel as fleeting as a spring breeze across the pasture, joy is something much sturdier. In the heart of Oklahoma, where folks know the value of a firm foundation, it is important to remember that true, lasting gladness isn't found in our circumstances, but in a Person.

When life gets busy, or the trails get a bit dusty, it is easy to start chasing after things that offer only temporary comfort. However, we believe that Jesus is the singular source of our joy. Unlike the world’s version of happiness—which often depends on everything going "just right"—the joy found in Christ remains steady even when the storms roll in.

The scriptures remind us that this isn't something we have to manufacture on our own:

"Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy." — 1 Peter 1:8

By keeping their eyes fixed on the Lord, the faithful can experience a peace that surpasses understanding. It is a reminder for every member of the community to lean into that grace today, knowing that when Jesus is the center of a life, the joy simply follows.

The Knock at the Closed Door

The gravel crunches under the tires of a memory you thought you’d parked for good, and before you can even wipe the dust off the window, there’s that sound. It’s a rhythmic, heavy thud against the wood of a door you’d spent years—maybe decades—trying to deadbolt. You know that knock. It’s the one that carries the scent of old mistakes, the chill of a habit you swore was dead, or the low, gravelly whisper of a shame that used to be your only roommate.

Most of us in Wyandotte were raised to be polite, to answer when someone calls, and to handle our own business. We’re used to rolling up our sleeves and leaning our full weight against the door when the wind starts to blow. We think if we just pray harder, grit our teeth tighter, or find a better way to explain ourselves, the shadow on the porch will eventually get tired and move on to the next house. But the enemy is a persistent trespasser, and he doesn’t care how much sweat you’ve poured into keeping him out.

The truth is, once you’ve handed the keys of your life over to the Father, you aren't the one responsible for the porch light anymore. You’re no longer the landlord of your own heart. When that old addiction starts pounding on the door, or when that bitterness you buried in the back pasture starts digging its way out, you don't even have to get up from your chair. You don't have to check the peephole to see who it is, and you certainly don't have to open up and start a conversation.

You simply look across the room at the One who actually owns the place and say, "Jesus, it’s for You."

There is a profound, bone-deep peace that comes when you realize the King of Glory is your front-line defense. When Jesus answers the door, the conversation changes instantly. The enemy isn't looking for the Lion of Judah; he’s looking for a tired, isolated soul he can bully into coming back out into the dark. But he can’t bully the Creator of the stars. He can't intimidate the One who already walked out of a sealed tomb. When the Lord of the House stands in the doorway, the intruder realizes he’s at the wrong address.

Scripture tells us in James 4:7 to submit ourselves to God, and then—and only then—resist the devil so he will flee. Our resistance isn't found in our own strength or our clever arguments. Our resistance is found in our submission. It is found in the moment we stop trying to be the hero of our own story and let the real Hero take the lead.

So, if you’re sitting there today and you hear the echoes of a past you thought was gone, or if a temptation is trying to talk its way back into your living room, don't you dare reach for that handle. Stay right where you are in the light of His grace. Take a deep breath, let the tension leave your shoulders, and hand the situation over to the only One the enemy is actually afraid of. Let the Landlord handle the door, because when Jesus is the one answering, the enemy has no choice but to turn around and head back down the driveway.

🌷 Welcoming May: A Season of Growth and Grace
Happy May Day, Wyandotte Friends!

As the calendar turns to May 1st, we find ourselves fully immersed in the beauty of spring. In many traditions, today is a day to celebrate the "greening" of the earth—a time when the hints of green in our gardens turn into vibrant blossoms and the air carries the scent of new life.

For us, May Day isn't just about maypoles or flower baskets (though those are lovely!); it’s a wonderful reminder of the faithfulness of our Creator. Just as the soil has been working quietly through the winter to bring forth these blooms, God is often working in the "quiet seasons" of our lives to prepare us for a beautiful harvest.

As you enjoy the sunshine today, take a moment to reflect on these words from the Song of Solomon:

"See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land."
— Song of Solomon 2:11-12

Looking Ahead

This month at Wyandotte Friends, we have so much to be grateful for. As we move toward Mother's Day and the end of the school year, let’s carry the spirit of May Day with us—one of renewal, community, and joy.

How are you seeing God’s handiwork in your neighborhood this week? Whether it’s a budding tree or a kind word from a neighbor, share your "May Day blessings" in the comments below!

The Family God Forms

Most of us grew up hearing the old saying, “Blood is thicker than water.” Folks usually use it to mean family comes first—your kin, your people, the ones who share your last name.

But the older, fuller saying flips that idea on its head:
“The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.”

In other words, the relationships formed by shared commitment—shared faith, shared purpose, shared sacrifice—can run deeper than even biological ties.

And if you’ve walked with Jesus for any amount of time, you’ve probably felt that truth in your bones.

The Covenant That Changes Everything
When Jesus shed His blood for us, He didn’t just save us—He made us family. Not the kind of family that’s tied together by DNA, but the kind that’s tied together by grace.

A covenant family.
A chosen family.
A forever family.

Scripture tells us:

We are adopted into God’s household

We are brothers and sisters in Christ

We are one body, held together by His Spirit

We are co-heirs with Christ Himself

That’s not small talk. That’s identity. That’s belonging. That’s home.

When Covenant Runs Deeper Than Kin
Some of the strongest bonds you’ll ever have won’t be with people who share your bloodline, but with people who share your Savior.

People who pray with you when life knocks the wind out of you.
People who show up with casseroles, hugs, and stubborn hope.
People who sit with you in the dark and celebrate with you in the light.
People who remind you who God is when you forget.

That’s covenant.
That’s church.
That’s the family Jesus builds.

A Place to Belong
Maybe you’ve felt alone lately. Maybe your family story is complicated. Maybe you’ve been searching for a place where you’re not just welcomed—you’re wanted.

Friend, you don’t have to walk this life by yourself.
There’s a seat for you.
There’s a family for you.
There’s a covenant that holds stronger than anything this world can break.

We’d love for you to be part of ours.

Dirt, Grace, and the Kind of Love That Doesn’t Walk Away

There’s a specific kind of quiet that settles over Wyandotte right about sunset. When the wind dies down just enough to hear the gravel crunch under your boots, it’s easy to get lost in your own head.

We’ve all been there thinking about the mistakes that feel like they’re etched in permanent ink. We look at our pasts like a piece of equipment that’s seen too many hard seasons, wondering if we’re just too "tore up" to be worth much anymore.

But here’s the beautiful truth: Your worth isn’t found in your polish; it was proven at the Cross.

The Price of Our Peace

In this life, we know that nothing truly valuable comes cheap. But the redemption we talk about in church isn’t just a "second chance"—it’s a total restoration. When the Bible says we are redeemed by His blood, it means the debt has been settled, the slate has been wiped clean, and you have been claimed as a child of the King.

"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace." — Ephesians 1:7

It doesn't matter how far you’ve wandered or how heavy that "baggage" feels today. Grace doesn't meet you halfway; it comes all the way to where you are, shakes off the dust, and brings you home.

Come Sit with Us This Sunday

If you’re looking for a place where you don't have to have it all figured out to belong, our doors are wide open. We aren't a porch full of perfect people—we’re just a family that’s been changed by a perfect Savior.

We’d love to see your face and share a cup of coffee. Whether you grew up in these pews or haven’t stepped inside a church in twenty years, there is a seat saved for you.
