Sunday’s service, Behold the Man, invited us to look closely at Jesus in His suffering and see the weight of what He carried for us.

Through the robe, the crown of thorns, and the reed, we are reminded that Christ willingly took on our shame, our curse, and our brokenness so that we could receive His righteousness.

Though mocked, beaten, and rejected, Jesus stood as the spotless Lamb—the One who knew no sin, yet became sin for us.

Behold the Man.
Behold our Savior.
Behold the love of Christ.

When Pilate presented Jesus to the crowd, he used the word anthrōpos, meaning “man” or “human being.”

He was pointing to Jesus’ humanity—beaten, mocked, and crowned with thorns. Yet the One standing before them was more than an ordinary man. He was the Son of God, the promised Messiah, and the Savior of the world.

The crowd saw weakness and shame. God was revealing the Man who would bear our sin and redeem His people.

Behold the Man: fully human, yet truly God; rejected by men, yet chosen to save.

The way mankind measures things is completely different from the way God measures them.

We look at strength, success, appearance, influence, and what can be seen. But God looks at the heart. He sees the bruised reed, the faint flame, and the places others may consider weak or insignificant—and He does not despise them.

What the world calls weak, God can redeem.
What the world overlooks, God sees.
What seems small to us is never insignificant to Him.

Don’t measure your life by the world’s standards.
Measure it by the truth of God’s Word.

Only the blood of Jesus can save.

Matthew 27 reminds us of the price Jesus willingly paid. He was mocked, beaten, crucified, and shed His blood for the forgiveness of our sins.

The cross wasn’t an accident. It was the fulfillment of God’s plan to make a way for us to be reconciled to Him.

Jesus gave His life so that we could have life.

There is no other name, no other sacrifice, and no other way to salvation. Jesus alone saves.

“What should I do with Jesus, who is called Christ?” They all answered, “Let him be crucified!”— Matthew 27:22

Pilate placed a question before the crowd that still confronts every one of us today:

What will you do with Jesus?

The crowd chose crucifixion. But Jesus willingly endured the cross, bearing our sin and giving His life so that we could be reconciled to God.

The question remains—not simply who is Jesus?
but what will you do with Him?

“Behold the man.”

When Pilate spoke those words, he was presenting Jesus before the people—but there is something deeper for us to see.

Behold the Man.

The One who came to save.
The One who bore our sin.
The One who willingly laid down His life for us.

Pilate wanted the crowd to look and understand who was standing before them. Today, we are invited to do the same.

Stop. Look to Jesus. Behold the Man.
