West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church

This past summer, six CDF Freedom Schools across the West Ohio Conference brought the joy of learning to more than 370 scholars. Created by the Children’s Defense Fund, Freedom Schools help students gain literacy and leadership skills, as well as confidence in their abilities. Freedom Schools in West Ohio partner with the following UM churches: Asbury North UMC in Columbus, Church for All People, Covenant UMC in Springfield, Grace UMC in Dayton, Trinity UMC in Lima, and Monroe Street UMC in Toledo. The West Ohio Conference provides small grants to each Freedom School thanks to support for the Peace with Justice Special Offering.

Conversations are being guided by participating laity and clergy sharing their ministry joys and concerns and executive directors asking how they can walk alongside to resource the churches.

The first four conversations were held yesterday in Pickerington and Kilbourne and today in Boardman and Jefferson. Seven additional in-person and two online conversations are scheduled through November 4.

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Toledo, Ohio, celebrated 190 years of faith, fellowship, and service! The congregation also marked the 10th anniversary of Marketplace for All People, a free store providing clothing, household items, food, and hygiene products to individuals and families in need throughout the Toledo area.

For nearly two centuries, St. Paul’s has been a vital part of its community, and Marketplace for All People continues that legacy by putting faith into action and ensuring neighbors have access to essential resources.

The worship service featured beautiful music, remarks from Pastor Leo Cunningham, and an inspiring message from Bishop Hee-Soo Jung. The celebration continued with hors d’oeuvres and fellowship following the service.

A special thank you to Rev. Jeremiah Diegel for capturing these wonderful moments!
