Good morning Church Family,

Today's Devotional: How to Love Others

When we rely on the Holy Spirit, we can love even the unlovable
Matthew 22:35-40

Jesus told the disciples, “In everything ... treat people the same way you want them to treat you” (Matthew 7:12). This is commonly called the Golden Rule, and most of us would probably agree that, in theory, it’s a good foundation for a healthy relationship. In practice, though, the principle is tough to live up to consistently.

It’s easy to love when others treat us well. But how do we respond when their behavior is hurtful or unpleasant? The truth is, Jesus meant for us to love others all the time, not just when they’re lovable. Regardless of their attitude toward us, we are to think about the relationship qualities we value—like loyalty, trust, encouragement, forgiveness, acceptance, and protection—and let these flow from us toward the other person.

When we care for others in the way the Lord prescribes, relationships thrive and deepen. Loving as Jesus commanded is impossible on our own, but the good news is, we don’t have to do it alone. The Holy Spirit lives in us and empowers us to love in ways we never could by ourselves.

Consider how you hope others will treat you—with kindness, patience, and grace. Ask God to show you one relationship where He wants to work through you today, and trust Him to provide what you need to love as Jesus loves.

Good morning Church Family,

Today's Devotional: What To Do When Change Comes

Hebrews 13:7-8

Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
I remember back in 1965 when our church got its very first drum set. Up until then, all we had was a piano and an organ. Well, I thought we were going to have to put cardiac arrest equipment in the foyer. And the interesting thing is I was the drummer… so I heard the worst of it!

“How could you bring that instrument into the house of God?” one lady asked. Another said, “It’s terrible that our church has come to this!” Well, after some time passed and some very delicate conversations took place, we kept the drum set.

Today, drums are commonplace in many churches, and most people don’t think twice about them. But the battle over drums in my church was just an example of the different perspectives that are present in any church. It may be instruments, preaching style, or carpet color, but each of us comes into church with a pre-conceived idea of how things “should” be.

But the reality is that we’re not always going to get our way and, at times, will have to acquiesce to change. So while you may have a different background than others in your church, keep the main thing the main thing. Stay unified in the Body and work together to worship and serve the Lord!

KEEP UNITY THE FOCUS IN THE BODY, EMBRACE CHANGE, AND WORK TOGETHER IN THE SERVICE OF CHRIST!

Good morning Church Family,

Today's Devotional: A Purpose of Adversity

Adversity is often God's tool for teaching us to hate sin and run toward Him
Psalms 37:23-28

When we’re walking through adversity, it’s easy to focus exclusively on the momentary trouble. God, however, has specific purposes for bringing us through times of hardship.

One reason He may allow trials is to teach us to follow Him more closely by rejecting sin. In Psalm 97:10, we are told, “Hate evil, you who love the Lord.” Isn’t it true that we sometimes don’t act as if we hate evil? We may say, “Evil is all around me in this world, so I guess it’s inescapable! The best I can hope to do is to try and manage it.”

But we are not commanded to manage evil; instead, we are instructed to hate its very presence. In today’s passage, verse 27 says, “Depart from evil and do good, so you will abide forever.” When we see evil, we are to turn around and run in the opposite direction.

Adversity has a way of clarifying things. In difficult seasons, God refines our spiritual vision, and we begin to see sin’s destructiveness more clearly. The hardship that once felt purposeless becomes the very means by which He draws us closer to Himself, teaching us to cling to what is good and flee from what destroys.
