Are You Disciplined
Matthew 16:22-25

There are a lot of people that will stand flat footed to tell you that they are a Christian and the longer I preach and the longer I follow the Lord I am seeing more and more of those same folks that will refuse to ever be disciplined. Whether disciplining themselves or by someone else, including Jesus.

But the fact is that Christian living will always presuppose Christian conviction.

So, what does that mean?

It means that because I hear your say that you are a Christian that I would be led to think that you also had Christian disciplined. But unfortunately, you can have all the beliefs that you want to have, and they will never come through in your conduct. This is when someone thinks they have real faith but there is nothing but a little belief in the head.
The scripture says that what is in the heart, and we all can look around and see the rest of that scripture by the actions of all those Christians.
When we see people that make these claims to be a Christian, but he does not live the Christian life, his live in not characterized by brokenness, tenderness and love, that makes us remember the words of Jesus that we will know them by there fruits.

The one thing that a lot of people miss is that if you are truly born again then there’s a change and your life become the expression of your faith through the walk and the work that we do for Christ.

It has never been more important than it is now, and it will only get more important by the day that we be effective in our walk, in our life, in our everyday.

The effective Christians of the past all had one thing in common, well two, first was Jesus, and second, they were all disciplined. And if you look at the word disciple and add a (in) in front of the last e then you have the word discipline.

To be a true and effective disciple of Christ we must seek to discipline our lives and to live as Christ did and to even walk as He did. That’s why He says to pick up your cross and follow Him.
The thing that has hindered the church the most is not what we preach or even what we believe because we all believe in the same Jesus, but it is our walk, our conduct, our daily living.

We need to have a revival in the way that the church is living in the world. We need to have a revival of good Christian example, and that will only come from all the professed followers of Christ beginning to practice Christian discipline on themselves.

So, what does this discipline look like, Charles Spurgeon once said, “I bear my witness that I owe more to the fire, the hammer and the file than to any other tool in the Lord’s workshop. He said I sometimes wonder if I even learned anything except through the rod.

Are you willing to have discipline in your walk?
Are you willing to be disciplined in your faith?
Are you willing to destroy that heart of unruly desire?

I ask this because there will come a day that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, and I am here to tell you it will be a lot better on you to learn that now than it will to learn it on that day.

Jesus Is Worthy of Our Worship
Matthew 14:31-33

How many here this morning is willing to proclaim that Jesus is who He says He is? Fact is that when He was on earth, He was God in human form. And did you know that this is a crucial truth that undergirds the reality of our salvation.

It was only the divine Savior that could die a perfect death as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. And it was this very Savior that could tell us how to live. And it is this same risen Savior, the ascended Son of God that is worthy of our worship.

Now during his time on earth, we all believe that He was God in the flesh, truly God and truly man. But I must proclaim also that He is from eternity to eternity. He was the beginning and He will be in the end; he was the first and He will be the last. And as His ambassadors we must present Him in all His fullness totally and truthfully. Because if we don’t, anything less disqualifies us from our high and holy calling.

Matthew 10:33 Jesus says if you deny me before men I will deny you before my father.

So how do we get there?

By faith Jesus become our Lord and Savior. In Matthew 28:18 it tells us that all authority in heave and on earth has been given to Him, but here and now the present evil world system does not acknowledge His Lordship. The reason being is right there in the scripture Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:.

But thank God that those that have Jesus living on the inside have authority over the evil one and all his demons. 1 John 4:4 says Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

So, I am fed up with all the Christians that want to stand around and say I can’t, I don’t know how, I get confused or any of the other 9 million excuses that we use to not do our part for the Lord.

Because of Jesus you can take all your human limitations and even all your failures and set them all on fire. Jesus is still sovereignly directing His own work of redemption. And it is because of having this connection, this personal relationship with Jesus that we are not just barely getting by because Romans 8:37 says that in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him. And you should know that because of that inspiring verse you can read down two more to find Romans 8:39 that declares that nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God.

It is only God that can take the greatest tragedy and turn them into something that we could have never imagined, because it is not only for our good but also for His glory and we know this by the words from Romans 8:28 says and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Because Jesus is our Savior, he saves us from the penalty of sin.

Because Jesus is Lord, He by His Holy Spirit, gives us power
over sin as we walk daily with Him.

I thank Him and Praise Him this Morning that I can stand boldly before this church and this whole world confident in the words from Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Are you worshiping Him this morning?

Are you worshipping Him every minute of every day?

Does your life worship Jesus as your lord and Savior?

If it doesn’t, let me encourage you this morning to come and get right with the Lord.

Roman 10:9 says it like this, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

The Christian Mind-Set
Philippians 2:5

We Christians are not to be conformed to this world. But at the same time, we must know that the world has waged a campaign against each of you. The world with all the vulgar advertisements, all the unhealthy language and conversations, and the sideways philosophy is currently engaged in the largest brainwashing task you could imagine. And for some Christians they don’t even realize that unconsciously they have been beset by the secular propaganda.

The advertisements of the secular whole are at a point that you almost need an age rating like they do for the movies. And much of the entertainment is driven by violence, witchcraft, s*x and lawlessness.

It almost seems that there is some diabolical mastermind that is running the affairs of this world and his chief objective is to get the Christians to make concessions and be conformed to this world.

We must look at it like this. All this junk that we see day in and day out is nothing more than the sewage system of the world and it threatens to contaminate the stream of Christian thoughts and action. And it is a fact that satan will buffer you for every minute that you spend with the Lord in his word or in prayer.

However, the world is yelling out the loudest we as Christian can hear the voice of scripture resonate our scripture from today Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:5, and be you transformed by the renewing of you mind that ye may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2.

Now when the scripture says that we are not to be conformed it means that we are not to even be affect by the anxiety of the world. And it is a fact that there are many Christians that are ringing their hands crying what is the world coming to? But the bible says in Matthew 6:34 that we are to let tomorrow worry about itself, and we are to stay focused on the Lord.

The Bible has already told us that the world and the lust of are already going to pass away. Revelation 21 is where John says I saw a new heaven and earth for the first had passed away.

We have already been told in the scripture that the world will come to a catastrophic ending with the final judgement.
So, remember that the Christians are supposed to be the lights in the midst of this dark world. Our lives should exemplify peace, calmness and joy in the midst of frustration, confusion and despair.

So, if the worldly mind-set of the world has started to attract you back or maybe you have never really kicked it, now is the time to gauge yourself and see if God is getting his share of your time and make sure that you have the mind set of Christ.

The Intolerance of Christ
Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

So, the way that the world and the church for that matter are acting we must have moved to a place that we believe that God will tolerate any behavior as long as we do it in the name of Jesus.

But let me show you something about the tolerance of Christ.

Did Jesus show tolerance when he said in Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Or was Jesus tolerant of sinful behavior when he said in Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Or maybe the pastors that want to bring the world into the churches think Jesus was tolerant in Matthew 21:12-13 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

You see the people of God have started to wander so bad that I am at the point that I am loosing interest in the thing that people are saying are of God but their tolerance of the world is very broad minded. We expect people that are steeps in sinful behavior from Sunday at 1201pm until the next Sunday at 1000am to suddenly be spiritual and full of Jesus.

A little of God for that a little bit of the world for that, it goes on and on. But I am here to tell you this morning that all that broad minded advice you been getting from a half-baked Christian that don’t even read the bible for themselves is not going to land you in heaven.
I want advice and prayer from someone that is connected to God, I want someone that is so focused on Jesus that they might even hurt your feelings telling you the truth. And I don’t care if you call me narrow-minded because that is what it is going to take to find that gate. Not my words that it straight from the Savior.

It is fact that Jesus was so intolerant of man’s lost state that He left His throne in heaven, took on himself the form of man, suffered at the hands of evil men, and died the shameful death of the cross to purchase your redemption.

So serious was the state of the sins of man that Jesus could not look upon it lightly. And with the Love that could only come from the Father, Jesus could not be broad-minded about the people of this world in all their lustful and sinful behaviors.

So, for all those that want to argue that the Lord Jesus is tolerant of you sin, that the Lord will overlook a little world in the church, Jesus said in Matthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

He also said in John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

We have the power to choose how we will serve the Lord. We will serve Him with the focus of the Holy Spirit, or we will wander around broad-minded as the world thinking we are save.

Anything way chosen but Christ, brings certain destruction. Jesus said that!

The broad, wide and easy way leads to death and destruction, but only the way of the cross leads us home to everlasting life.

Can I encourage you to narrow your focus to see Christ as your everything.

Sorry this was last weeks message!

Peace is not passive
Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
According to Webster Dictionary the word peace has 5 meanings.
1: a state of tranquility or quiet
2: freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions
3: harmony in personal relations
4: a state or period of mutual concord between governments
5: used interjectionally to ask for silence or calm or as a greeting or farewell.

And we know that in Romans 12:18 it says if it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

But the one thing that is missing from the worlds view of piece is the most important thing about peace. To have the Peace of God and to be at Peace with God.

But what would you say if I asked about the peace of God? Or maybe peace with God?

Most would say that to have the peace of God or be at peace with God means that I am doing pretty good. But what if I were to tell you that that was not enough.

Peace of God and Peace with God are wonderful in and of themselves but it is just the beginning because we then must take our vertical relationship with the Father and move it out horizontally outside of ourselves.

Jesus said that we are to love the Lord with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves. And because of this command it takes us realizing the love of God for us to be able to have that same love for our neighbors, but if we don’t then our faith and what we believe is in vain. Because we all know that faith without work is dead.

You see, not loving our neighbors is like being in a boat rowing for the shores of heaven. As you were rowing there were men and women all around the boat struggling in vain to reach the shore safely. But all along the trip, you were too busy signing I’m bound for the promise land to notice that you had absolutely ignored the danger all the people around you were in.

You say what does this have to do with the church.
Colossians 3:15 – “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body.

It has everything to do with the church. If we have the peace of God and are at peace with God then we should be the peacemakers.

We will not create division in the church or anywhere else.
We will not cause riffs or take part in clicks or treat others as if they don’t belong.
We will not spread lies and gossip and tell untruths about our brothers and sisters.

Do you believe that everyone should be able to have and experience the peace of God through Christ? Ephesians 2:14 says For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

We are take the love of God and we are to use it to do the work of the Lord that each one of us has been left here to do. Then we will can take pride in seeking to share that love. Then we can start to lead the people of this world to discover the source of true peace in Christ.
John 14:27 – Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid”

Our lives take on a different dimension when we find the peace of God.

Isaiah 26:3 says “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you”

We start to forget about that single dot that represents our self-centeredness and start to see the true value of those that are around us. Peace flows down to us from God and out to our everyone that will accept it. And it is awesome and more peaceful than anyone can imaging when you become the channel that God uses to bring peace to others.

sorry this was from 2 weeks ago!!

Your tongue will tell on you
Matthew 12:34

No where in the Bible does God tell me I have to trust you.

Just like when Jesus forgave me of my sin, forgiveness is an act of grace. So yes I must show the same grace. And as a matter of fact, trust is earned. Not only with God but with people too.

You say well how do you know that trust is earned? Because it is earn through repeated reality. So what is a repeated reality? Whatever repeated reality you have shown me, you have taught me to trust your actions as they are the true reality.

Of what? Of you!

If you repeatedly lied to me, you have taught me to believe you're a liar, and this goes for any type of sinful behavior. If you repeatedly use bad language, or repeatedly act out in bad behavior of any kind you have taught me to believe that is who you are. Paul says it this way in Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Look at how Jesus describes it in Matthew 7:15-16 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits.

Now you say well you are out of line, I say don't get mad at me, you told me that is who you are, you showed me that is who you are, and as a matter of fact trained me by the repeated reality of your words and actions.

If you constantly let people down, you have trained them to not trust you because you will let me down. And you wonder why those that are around you are saying I'm can’t lean on them.

Should I not be shocked that most or all of the church would raise their hand to say you have been through this before?

OK, so the word says that I have to forgive you. It say Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

The Bible says there's a torment to unforgiveness that I bring on myself. The heart of a man cannot hold all that stuff in, so the forgiveness is to not get bogged down with the load of all that junk.

Did you know that when you forgive someone, the forgiveness is a gift back to you. I forget and carry all that junk around when the forgiveness was a gift to me. Amen. When you forgive it does not take away all of the junk because it will always be there but man does it open you up to receive a little joy.

I forgive you but for some reason you cannot see why no one trust you and here you come back and say well I thought you forgave me, well. I did forgive you as the Bible says in Matthew 18 that I must forgive my brother 70 x 7.

Now, for you Christians that are continuing to submit yourselves to abuse behavior, language and attitudes, whether it be physical, spiritual, mental, or emotional what are we doing?
Are you just hoping and praying that the person or persons that are treating us the same way the devil would treat us is going to change? Well, anything is possible with God.

But I am here to tell you that these things that the devil uses people and thing to infect you with are nothing more than stumbling blocks and roadblocks for the children of God to distract you and keep you from the things that God has for you.

It is time to take Jesus at His word in Matthew 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.,

It is time to shake off the shackles that hold you down.

So, what does that mean? It means that although I have forgiven you the way the Lord says that we are to, I have no desire to drudge through what it would take to be your friend because you refuse to let go of your sin and you refuse to let go of the world!!!

The time to turn from you sin and rejoin the flock is now!!
