Friday Evening Services:
Summer: 7:30 pm, 6pm 1st Friday of each Month
Winter: 6 pm
Saturday Morning Services: 10 am

Shabbat Community services, which are geared towards an intergenerational celebration of Shabbat, are offered monthly. We celebrate Jewish holidays throughout the year. We announce these events in our Program Guide and weekly email updates, and on our website, wjcshul.org. Children’s Services
As part of our First Friday program, special Tot Shabbat services are held at 5 pm on the first Friday of each month. Once a month, we hold a Shabbat Community Day for the whole congregation, with special participation and activities for our families with children. During the High Holy Days and on other holidays, we offer innovative children’s services and activities.

The present moment is constantly changing and it is difficult to maintain attention. We get caught up almost immediately in reactivity and distract ourselves with endless stories about life and our place in it. We focus on planning how to get the things we want and get rid of what we don’t want — including people and situations. Driven by a small sense of self, we act selfishly and in self-centered ways. Awakened attention, in contrast, allows us to see the Sacred Divine Unfolding behind and within All-Being and experience our place as part of that Unfolding, sometimes called mystical experience or mystical revelation.

During this weekend retreat we will learn a variety of practices including contemplative prayer and chant on Friday night and Shabbat morning, using Shabbat observance as a vehicle to bring us into Sacred space/time. Our time together will be conducted in social silence (refraining from speaking with each other), allowing each of us to pay more sustained attention to the normal mundane workings of mind and ego.

As we prepare for the 5787 High Holy Days ...

Lala Tamar is what happens when Moroccan soul and Brazilian beats meet on the dance floor. Wherever she goes, hearts and feet leave happy.

Master kora player Yacouba Sissoko devotes his gift to spreading the word of peace and expanding awareness of West African history and culture. His performances transform traditional songs and stories inherited from his forefathers into messages of love, harmony, and empowerment.

Lala and Yacouba are joined by Zachi Asher on Oud and guitar, and Rich Stein on percussion. This collaboration explores the place of song keepers as channels of their respective community, the power of music and musicians, to open ethereal places abundant in beauty, poetry, healing and dance. In the spaces of sacred music, there are no boundaries to transgress, everywhere is home.
