The words “In God we trust” are found on every US coin. Here’s a short list of things scripture warns us against putting our faith in instead of God:

1. Riches and wealth (ironic!): Proverbs 11:28 - among many!

2. Your own mind and heart and understanding: Proverbs 28:26, Jeremiah 17:9, Proverbs 3:5

3. Other people (sad, but true 😢): Psalm 118:8

4. Military and political power: Psalm 20:7, Isaiah 31:1

5. False gods and idols: Exodus 20:3-5, among many!

In his Letter to the Romans, Paul emphasizes faith in God alone as the foundation of our hope and community and life. Let us “keep the faith” together in Christ!

Join us this week as we begin our study of Romans, “So that It May Rest on Grace” beginning Tuesday 6/9 at 3 pm on Zoom and in person Wednesday 6/10 at noon in our Parish Hall (bring your lunch!)

In his Lectures on Romans, Luther taught that gratitude is the first step in worshipping God.

Gratitude, he says, “keeps the heart for God and holds the heart directed toward him.”

Sometimes we rush around with responsibilities and worries and forget to notice the goodness around us.

Why not take a moment, sit on the nearest bench, maybe beneath a tree, near a garden 😉 and consider:

“What am I grateful for today?”

The Holy Trinity reminds us that relationship is woven into the very nature of God.

As Creator, God brings life into being. As Savior, God draws near in love and redemption. As Comforter, God remains present, guiding and sustaining us through every season.

At the heart of the Trinity is a relationship of love, shared, given, and received. Created in the image of this relational God, we are called to live in community, practice radical welcome, and care for one another as Christ cares for us.

On this Trinity Sunday, may we give thanks for the mystery of a God who creates, saves, comforts, and continually invites us into deeper relationship with God and one another.
