What a celebration today! We celebrated Pentecost with our multilingual service including 7 different languages besides English! We also welcomed a couple new members from Peru and Cuba into our family. We finished with a celebration of May birthdays as well.

Fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, the Spirit of the living God came upon Jesus’ disciples at Pentecost, just as he had promised. For a brief moment, Peter preached and everyone heard him in their own language. On that day, the people heard both accusing words and saving words:

“You, with the help of wicked men, put him to death” (Acts 2:23).

But they also heard the good news that God raised Jesus from the dead and that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Acts 2:21).

This Sunday, Sure Foundation will gather for a special multilingual worship service celebrating King Jesus, our Savior. Together we will hear his Word, pray, speak in many tongues (languages), and receive him in his Sacrament. The Holy Spirit will come with his power, comfort, and peace.

Happy Ascension Day!

After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? We have become convinced that Jesus truly is risen. But what difference does that truth make?

That’s the question we’ve been exploring throughout Easter. Does the resurrection simply leave us with a vague sense of optimism about life? For Peter, James, Paul, and so many others, it did far more.

The resurrection turned disciples into apostles.
It transformed fearful followers into bold, fearless witnesses.
It assured them of the forgiveness of sins and the loving embrace of the Father.

This Sunday, as we conclude our sermon series on 1 Corinthians 15, we will name and celebrate those powerful results of Jesus’ resurrection.
As one theologian put it:
“If Christ is risen, nothing else matters. And if Christ is not risen, nothing else matters.”
