9. The Church in the Bible
The text of Acts two reveals what happened when Peter and the other apostles preached the simple gospel of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:41, “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.” NKJV Who does the ‘them’ refer to in this context? Jesus is preached after the apostles received the Holy Spirit. Peter stood up with the eleven, many signs and wonders were done by the apostles. After the apostles preached, the people were baptized and added to them, ‘the apostles.’ ‘Them’ directly in the context, refers to the apostles. When the people were baptized, they were added to them. Peter says people are the stones added to the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Peter started preaching as part of the foundation and Jesus Christ was made by God the chief corner stone by His resurrection. When we have the foundation and the stones finishing the building on the foundation, the building is complete. It is no wonder the Bible says in Acts 2:47 that the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. The church was built in Acts chapter 2, after the resurrection of Jesus Christ who was 33 and half years old. More to come . . .

8 The Church in the Bible
Peter stood up with the eleven apostles and preached a gospel sermon. We are shown that the Holy Spirit guided Peter and the other apostles, to preach about Jesus and Him crucified. In other words, Peter showed from the Old Testament how Jesus was predicted. Jesus then came and confirmed in the New Testament what had been prophesied. Concluding in Acts 2:36, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" NKJV The Jews now believed that Jesus blood had been spilt because of their rejection of Him. They realized from the preaching that day, they needed salvation. The Jews then said, “What shall we do?” Listen to Peter’s answer, Acts 2:38-39, “Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." NKJV More to come. . .

7. The Church in the Bible
We have learned the church is not a physical structure made of earthly materials. Those who are called out of the world to be God’s community make up the church. When the Bible talks about the church being a building it is not a physical building. Peter says that those who are born again are living stones in God’s house (1 Peter 2:4,5). On the day of Pentecost, the church foundation is finished when the apostles receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4). We learn later that all stones are added to Jesus Christ and the apostles making God’s spiritual house, the church. We have learned from the Bible that the church is made up of people who are called out of the world by the gospel. This is what happened in Acts chapter two and beyond. More to come . . . 6. The Church in the Bible
When the Bible speaks of the church of our Lord it is referring to the assembly of Christ. The assembly is made up of saints who came out of the world through obedience to the gospel. How does Christ call us out of the world? 1 Corinthians 1:2,”To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:” NKJV We are told by this apostle that everyone sanctified in Christ Jesus is called to be a saint! How does the Lord call us? 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14, “. . .God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel. . .” NKJV Every person who is saved will first be called by the gospel.
