As I found myself writing my last column for “Look from Brook” (I’m retiring on June 14th) an old memory came to me and it reminded me that there are moments in life when you quietly step into lane eight and wonder if anybody will notice you’ve stopped running. Yesterday Bear Creek UMC offered the life of Chuck McKee back up to God. Chuck was such a faithful soul. We will miss his presence but be encouraged by his life lived so faithfully. We intended to stream the service but had some technical difficulties. Here is the service recorded from my daughter, Cassie’s, cell phone.

From Pastor Brook:

My dad died at sixty, so for much of my life I never really imagined retirement emotionally.

Now, standing at this new threshold, I’m wondering if retirement is less an ending and more a doorway —
into writing, hiking, gardening, grandchildren, and becoming more fully alive.
