Today's Gospel has a strong connection to a passage we heard proclaimed during Lent: the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. At the conclusion of that passage, the woman runs back to town to tell everyone about what Jesus has told her. As the townspeople begin to make their way out to the well to see Jesus, he tells the Twelve to "lift up [their] eyes, and see the fields are white for harvest." What were they looking at? The white head coverings and clothing of the Samaritans.

It's a good reminder that often, the people we are supposed to speak the Word to are RIGHT in front of us.

Today, let's ask the Lord for the strength to proclaim his Word to our neighbors.

Yesterday, we celebrated the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today, we remember Mary's heart, that image of her soul, which was in perfect continuity with God's plan. Lord, give us her heart here at OLOW!

Today, we join the universal Church in celebrating the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, meditating on the great gift of the Eucharist that Jesus has left us. It is the food that truly nourishes us for our journey toward heaven.

The parish church of Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy is now famous for what happened there on June 6, 1944: D-Day. Private John Steele of the 82nd Airborne parachuted into town, was injured by flak, and dangled from the pinnacle of the church.

He faked being dead for two whole hours, until the Germans took him prisoner. Later, he was able to escape and rejoin his unit.

Today, these events are commemorated by the "Parachute Memorial," which still dangles from the church steeple. It's a tribute to all the soldiers who fought to liberate Europe.

Let's pray today for all soldiers who have died in the defense of basic freedoms.
