IMPORTANT UPDATE: Mission Sunday Postponed - Outdoor Activities Still Taking Place

Dear First United Family,
We have an important update regarding Mission Sunday tomorrow, September 13.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing water issue at the church, we need to postpone our indoor Mission Sunday activities that were scheduled to take place at FUPCDC.

The church building remains closed because the main water shut-off valve is broken, which means we cannot safely and reliably restore water service to the building. Until the valve can be repaired, we will not be able to use the church building for Sunday’s activities.

The two outdoor Mission Sunday activities WILL still take place as planned.

If you signed up for one of the two outdoor mission activities, please go directly to the location of your activity and meet there at 10:30 AM. There is no need to come to the church first.

All other indoor Mission Sunday activities will be postponed and rescheduled for a later date. We will share the new date and additional details as soon as we are able.

We are disappointed that we cannot gather for Mission Sunday in the way we had planned, but we believe postponing the indoor activities is the best decision given the circumstances.
Thank you for your flexibility, patience, and understanding — and a special thank you to everyone who has worked so hard preparing for Mission Sunday.

Because this is a last-minute change, please help us spread the word to others in the congregation who may not see this email before tomorrow morning.

And to those participating in our outdoor projects tomorrow: thank you for continuing to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community!

Grace and peace,

Pastor AdamFirst United Presbyterian Church of Dale City

💜 A number worth saving in your phone: 988.

I have 988 saved in my contacts as “Su***de Prevention Text Line,” and I wanted to share this reminder in case someone else needs it.

If you’re struggling, overwhelmed, in emotional distress, thinking about su***de, or simply need someone to talk to, you can CALL or TEXT 988 and connect with a trained crisis counselor. It’s available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it’s free and confidential.

And you don’t have to know what to say.

You can literally just text 988. Any message will start the conversation.

Sometimes asking for help out loud feels impossible. Texting may feel a little easier.

Save the number. Share the number. Tell your kids, your friends, your family, your congregation. You never know when having 988 already in your phone might matter.

💜 Call 988. Text 988. There is someone there to listen.

Time for Children today with at ! ❤️

Sometimes holding on to anger, hurt, or frustration can feel a lot like holding those cans up in the air. At first, it may not seem so hard, but the longer we hold on, the heavier it gets.

Jesus invites us to put that weight down, to go to one another, seek reconciliation, and try to as God so graciously forgives us. 🙏

A simple lesson with a powerful reminder for children and grown-ups, too. ❤️

Today, we join people around the world in giving thanks for the extraordinary life of Dolly Parton.

Dolly gave us more than unforgettable music. She offered humor without cruelty, confidence without pretense, and generosity that placed books into the hands of children around the world. She spoke openly about her faith and never forgot the humble community that shaped her. Again and again, her life reminded us that hope can grow from hardship, love can endure through loss, and one generous heart can change countless lives.

As we listen to “If You Hadn’t Been There,” the song Dolly wrote following the death of her beloved husband, Carl Dean, its words carry a different meaning today. We give thanks to God that Dolly was here. We are grateful for her songs, her laughter, her compassion, and her wonderfully expansive heart.

May God comfort her family, friends, and all who mourn her passing. The world is kinder, brighter, and more hopeful because Dolly Parton was here.

Rest in peace and rise in glory, Dolly. You will always be loved. 💗
