Plan with Peace of Mind: Advance Care Planning Workshop

Planning for the future isn’t always easy—but it can bring a deep sense of comfort and clarity for you and the people you love. St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church is inviting the community to take an important step forward with an Advance Care Planning Workshop, thoughtfully designed to help individuals make their healthcare wishes known with confidence.

The workshop will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5555 Saratoga Drive in Woodbridge, Virginia. Attendance is FREE and open to the community. Just give a call and RSVP to 703-590-3990.

Participants will learn what advance care planning is, why it matters, and how to begin making decisions that reflect their personal values and preferences. The workshop will cover essential tools such as living wills and healthcare proxies, along with strategies for starting meaningful conversations with family members.

The session will be led by The Rev. Dr. Ruth Anne Sawyer, Supervisor of Chaplaincy Services at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, who brings both professional expertise and a compassionate perspective to this important topic.

Honoring our mothers on Mother's Day!
We had a beautiful Worship Service on Sunday, May 10 - which was Mother's Day. As part of our service, we had many of the mothers with us gather in the front of the sanctuary for a special blessing & prayer by Mother Katherine.

Mother Katherine's special prayer included: "...today, we join together with all your children by giving thanks and praying for our mothers. We thank you for their love, and we thank them for their kindness and nurturing..."

Then, after service, we went to the parish hall for cake, wraps, and fellowship!

We share some information from our brother Daniel Benedict who will be leading a course that begins June 8th. It will be ecumenical in approach looking at the basic liturgical consensus shared by the mainline Christian traditions: liturgical dynamics, baptism, the daily office, calendar and lectionary, Eucharist and how students will carry forward what they explored in the course. The course will use Daniel's book, "Patterned by Grace," as the text. The primary thrust will aim at discovery and formative application.
