Will we Know Jesus When He Comes?

In Matthew 24:4-5, Jesus warned His followers humane alert during the end times. I think we can agree we're at that point today. He said that many will come in His name and will lead many astray.

When reading Psalm 139, we may fear that somehow we might miss Jesus' second coming or that He might forget about us on that day. How comforting to realize that God has known us since before we were born! He knows everything about us....good and the bad.

How will we know Jesus? How much more He knows us! Our salvation has never depended on anything we can do; it is only through the gift of faith in Jesus sacrificial death and Resurrection that our forgiveness comes. Don't worry, friends. Jesus will not forget a single soul when He returns to gather home the harvest of believers!

A Watchman for Israel

Ezekiel 33:1-9

What is a watchman? A lookout; someone who warns against danger. We see many warnings today: Bridge Out. One Way. Road Closed. These warnings can be inconvenient but they are there for our safety and well-being.

In the above-mentioned verses, we find Ezekiel being called by God to be a watchman for the house of Israel. His job was to speak to God's people who had fallen into a ject sin and wickedness. He had specific instructions: warn the wicked to turn away from their sin. There were conditions, though, that Ezekiel had to follow. If he neglected to warn an offender, that person's blood would be on his hands. Conversely, if he indeed gave warning to an offender who refused to mend his ways, Ezekiel would be 'off the hook' and deliver his own soul.

We live among a generation (or two) whose cry is "You have no right to judge me! Do we see someone going the wrong way down a "one-way street" and attempt to warn them, knowing they may take offense at that? Or do we just ignore their blunder, knowing we will be held accountable for our silence?

We are spokesmen for a heavenly Father today. Do not fear to do the work He has given us to do, no matter what someone screams at you. Do not fear the nay-sayers or those who trumpet an agenda that is contrary to God's Word. We answer to Almighty God and WILL have give an account for the deeds that we have done, whether good or evil.

My last visit with Jeremiah

"So it goes everywhere now... the people rage and rave most horribly against God. They blaspheme and damn God's word, though they will know that it is God's word and the truth. Besides so many fearful signs and wonders are appearing, both in the heavens and among all creatures... it is indeed a wicked and miserable time, even worse than that of Jeremiah.

But so it will be, and must be. The people simply persecute everything that accords with the will of God and disregard all the threatening signs until destruction suddenly surprises them and destroys them before they know it.

Take heart!!! Christ will be able to sustain his own, for whose sake he causes his word to shine forth in this shameful time of ours, just as at Babylon he sustained Daniel and those like him, for whose sake Jeremiah's prophecy had to shine forth. To the same dear Lord be praise and thanks, with the father and the Holy spirit, one God overall and to eternity. Amen

Last week we took a look at Jeremiah and his dismay at how Israel had forsaken the Lord God. His grief was real and considering today's Church, our grief for the Bride of Christ should be just as real. Now, as then, smooth talkers have spread falsehood throughout the Church, with glowing promises and 'Did God really say...." etc. Along comes Hananiah, who only appears in this passage (Chapter 28) and nowhere else in Scripture. He was happy to tell the Israelites their Babylonian servitude was already coming to end. Everyone would be glad for that!

Jeremiah took his time to reply to these false proclamations till a word from the Lord came to him. The Lord basically said Hananiah was a liar and would be 'removed from the face of the earth' for uttering rebellion. Hananiah died later that year.

Let us take a lesson from this event. Telling falsehoods and encourage rebellion never has a good ending. Smooth talkers who downplay God's Word to promote their own agenda will deceive many; do not be one of them! God Word supercedes the twisted voices of today. Look to God alone!

Jeremiah-Witnessing to the Weary

Our friend Jeremiah is not an easy read, for he seems to be in a perpetual state of angst.

Now that I have spent some time thinking about what and why he wrote, I have a clearer understanding of his state of mind. He saw the falling away of his people from God, just as we are seeing today. The empty seats, the lack of interest, and the desire to revise God's Word into whatever societal whim is popular. Is this pleasing to God? Does this have His seal of approval?

I now understand Jeremiah's grief over what he saw the church becoming. It hurts my heart to see the lack of interest and other things that are so very far away from the Word, yet so sadly promoted.

It is my prayer that we can be a shining light to the lost and that people will desire and seek GOD's truth. Our 'ship' is leaking; let us work while it is day. Be a Jeremiah!
