17 May 1932! A boy is born in Wolfe City, Texas. Troyce Len Woodruff, the son of William Ira and Louvenia Ellen McKay Woodruff who live on the Colter Farm, North of the Aberfoyle store. 1 mile.
Troyce attends school at Aberfoyle country school 1 year. Ira buys farm 1/2 way between Aberfoyle and South Sulfur in 1938 and the family moves. Troyce attends school at Pleasant Ridge (Chigger Ridge) for 6 years. He goes to school in Wolfe City 1946/1947. Ira dies in a car accident in 1939, leaving Louvenia with 8 children. Troyce quits school in 1947 to work his mother’s farm. In 1948 at age 16 he goes to Dallas to work. Troyce gets a job delivering telegrams, Western Union. He has a walking route for two months, then gets a motorcycle route. He delivers all over Dallas on a Cushman motor scooter for one year and then joined the military, age 17, 1949.
Four years U.S. Army, seventeen years US. Air Force. While in the military Troyce spent two years in England, one year in Korea, three years in Hawaii, one year in Alaska, three years in Germany, and one year in Vietnam. The rest of his service years were spent stateside on the mainland. He retired in 1969 after serving our country for twenty-one years. After retiring, he worked for GTE and Verizon for twenty years as the only telephone man serving the Leonard and Trenton area.
Troyce married Willie Mae Harrell, fifth day of March 1954. They had four children. Three sons and a girl. Troyce (Len/Kinky), Ira (Buddy), Robert (Bobby) and Berlinda. Willie and the children were able join him for the three years spent in Hawaii and the three years spent in Germany. After twenty years working for the telephone company, Troyce retired 1990, and raised cattle, the rest of his life. He has five grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Grandchildren: Danny, Ashley; Michelle; Jessica, Travis; Trudy, Danny; Ethan, Priscilla; Matt, Grace; Andrew Jr., Kasi, Great-grandchildren: Ellis, Olianna, Keonna, Tucker, Tate, Troyce, Liam, Landon, Wade and another great-grandchild on the way.
All three sons (Troyce, lra and Robert) preceded him in death as well as two granddaughters (Michelle and Ashley).
Troyce enjoyed playing dominos, cards and riding four wheelers. He and little Troyce rode many miles on their Hondas. Troyce does not consider himself a Hero but he did receive the Air Force commendation medal for the time he spent in Vietnam (1968). He was exposed to agent orange on many occasions while serving in Vietnam! This has caused many medical problems in later years. When he died Troyce was being compensated by the VA, as a 100% service connected combat related veteran.
Troyce passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at his home in Celeste, Texas.
A visitation will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at RW Owens Funeral Home in Wolfe City, Texas. The Funeral service will start at 11:00AM. Burial to follow the service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, Texas.

Hal Howard Jobe passed away at his home in Wolfe City, Texas on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the age of 94. He was born on June 29, 1931 in Wolfe City, Texas to parents James Wesley Jobe and Lydia (Craig) Jobe.

Hal is survived by his 4 children, Cathy Orum and her husband Don, Linda Kirkwood, Kenneth Jobe and John Jobe and his wife Tina. Grandchildren: Jacquelin Canfield and her husband Joey, Donald Orum, Amy Orum and her husband Clayton Supensky, Julie Box and her husband Matt, Cory Peel and his wife Cammie, Jessica Callahan and her husband John, Travis Jobe and his wife Brittany, Kayla Jobe, and Devon Jobe and his wife Morganne. Great Grandchildren: Hunter Canfield, Colby Canfield, DJ Melton, Jetson Box, Quinn & Addison Peel, Aubrey Peel, Mason Linex, Megan Linex, Annabelle Jobe, Cody Wayne McGehee and Remi Jobe. Hal is also survived by 1 brother, Jimmy Wayne Jobe.

Hal is preceded in death by his parents James & Lydia Jobe, his son Robert Jobe, brother Ralph Jobe, sister Jeanette Crow and great grandson Zachary Orum.

Pallbearers: Donald Orum, Cory Peel, Travis Jobe, Devon Jobe, Hunter Canfield, Colby Canfield, and John Callahan

Dr. Jerry Wesson, 85, died in Longview, Texas, on April 20, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Effie Mae Adams Wesson and William Covie Wesson.

Dr. Wesson was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on June 20, 1940, and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1958.

In 1961, he married Barbara Ann Wasson of Wolfe City, Texas. They were married for 64 years.

In 1958–59, Jerry worked full-time for the FBI in Washington, D.C., while attending George Washington University. He later transferred to East Texas State University (now East Texas A&M University), where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. While there, he was a member of Delta Tau Delta, Alpha Phi Omega, and Kappa Delta Epsilon, and served as president of both his junior class and his graduate class.

In 1972, Jerry received his doctorate from East Texas State University.

Jerry joined the faculty at Eastern Illinois University for two years and later served as Assistant Dean of Men at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1966, he was part of the original administration team of the first college in the Dallas County Community College District—El Centro College. During his nineteen years at El Centro, Dr. Wesson served in several leadership roles. In 1984, as one of the founding administrators of Northeast Texas Community College, he began work there and later retired in 1997 as Vice President of Student Services. During his thirty-five years in higher education, he also held numerous leadership positions in state and national professional organizations.

After retiring from Northeast Texas Community College, he served for two years as a Municipal Judge in Mount Pleasant.

During the 41 years he lived in Mount Pleasant, Jerry was active in numerous civic and service organizations. He served in the Rotary Club, where he was president in 1987, was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1988, and was recognized as Rotarian of the Year in 1996. He was an executive member of the Chamber of Commerce and chairman of Leadership Mount Pleasant. He was also deeply involved at Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the Administrative Board, a lay speaker, and a Sunday school teacher for many years.

When Jerry was not working or serving in the community, he enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, motorcycle racing, cooking, and spending time with his family.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his son, Randall Scott Wesson, and daughter-in-law, Karin, of Sedalia, Colorado; four grandchildren, Kelsey Wesson Collier of Castle Rock, Colorado, Allison Wesson Leino of Clayton, North Carolina, Jacob Wesson of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Jenna Wesson Rodriguez of Castle Pines, Colorado; and four great-grandchildren, Aaron Collier, Levi Collier, Charles Wesson, and Addison Wesson.

A short graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, Texas. Following the same day, A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm at Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Dr. Jerry Wesson Honors Scholarship at Northeast Texas Community College or to Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Dwight Stephen ''Steve'' Davis was born on October 21, 1950, and went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2026, surrounded by the ones he loved most.

Steve was a devoted husband to Beckie McKay Davis for 54 wonderful years. He loved his family with his whole heart, and nothing brought him more joy than time spent with them. He especially cherished family vacations to Colorado, where he enjoyed riding through the mountains and making lasting memories with his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren, who lovingly called him ''Big Daddy'' were truly his world.

Steve was a devoted Christian who faithfully served the Lord as a deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Wolfe City. He was a valued member of his community, serving on the Wolfe City ISD School Board. Alongside his friend, Dwayne Herron, he helped establish the Wolfe City Buyers Co-op, raising money for the agricultural youth of Wolfe City. He also served as an officer of the Wolfe City Riding Club and was a member of the Wolfe City Volunteer Fire Department. His love for agriculture led him to a lifelong career as a farmer, rancher, and fertilizer application business owner.

During his high school years, Steve was a standout athlete who excelled in basketball. He was named to the All-Star basketball team and went on to attend TCU and later East Texas State University on basketball scholarships.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beckie Davis; his children, Jennifer Reed and her children, Chase Reed and his fiancé, Katie, and Abby Reed; Jill Woodruff and her husband, Brandon, and their children, Taylor Minter and her husband, Trenton, and Kinsly Woodruff; and Jake Davis and his wife, Alissa, and their children, Cade Davis and Cullen Davis.

Steve is also survived by his brother, Timmy Davis and his wife, Molly; his brother-in-law, Joel McKay and his wife, Kim; his sister-in-law, Tammie Parkes and her husband, Joe; as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Frances Davis; his brother, Michael Davis; and his granddaughter, Leddy Dale Davis.

Steve will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his servant's heart, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind in all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Derek Sheets, Chris Sheets, Cary Herron, Cody Herron, Curt Herron, Rickey Hester, Gaylon Swinson, Brad Cameron, and Cody Malone.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Ray, Joe Swinson, Buzz Malone, Bill George, Russell Brown, Willie Shaw, Larry Lake, Danny Gardner and Charles Felty.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 23, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Wolfe City from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Wolfe City, with a graveside service at Mount Carmel Cemetery immediately following.

Rhoda Gail (McKay) Sawan passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 in Carrollton, Texas at the age of 74. She was born in Dallas, Texas on August 22, 1951 to parents Charles Boyd McKay and Roselyn (Shanks) McKay.
Rhoda is preceded in death by her parents Charles Boyd McKay and Roselyn (Shanks) McKay and sister Barbara (McKay) Frerich.
Rhoda is survived by her 3 children, Sammi Breedlove and husband Greg, son, Farris Sawan and Amber and son Shariff Sawan and wife Jori. She is also survived by her Grandchildren: Jacob, Andrew, Morgan, Jordan, RiLee, Braxton, Easton, Jamison and Luke and one Great grandchild, Keanu along with many beloved family and friends.
Rhoda’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother, dear friend and follower of Christ. She was an avid crafter and loved creating handmade items for her friends and family that they treasure to this day.
A Memorial visitation will be from 1:30–2:00 p.m. at RW Owens Funeral Home in Wolfe City, Texas on Sunday, March 8, 2026 followed by a tribute at 2:00 p.m officiated by Pastor Steve Bishop. Interment will follow at a later date at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.

James Kenneth Sandford

December 25, 1944 – January 25, 2026

James Kenneth Sandford, age 81, passed away at his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Jacob and Grace Roden Sandford December 25, 1944, in Cameron, Texas.

A graveside service is scheduled Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 at Mt. Carmel which will be conducted by Mark Eldridge, however in the event of inclement weather, the service may be held indoors. Please call Owens Funeral Home to verify the location if you are unable to attend the visitation. Visitation will be at 9:30, Friday before the service at Owens Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Aaron Deary, Walton Sims. Tyler Deary, Jacob Deary, Cole Deary, and Cooper Sims.

James joined the United States Army at age 17 and proudly served his country before retiring as a Staff Sergeant after 32 years of exemplary service.

He married Glynda Lytal May 21, 1971, in Wolfe City. He and Glynda raised two daughters.

He is survived by his daughters: Julie Deary and husband Aaron, Amy Sims and husband Walton, grandchildren Tyler Deary and wife Natalie, Jacob Deary, Cole Deary, and Cooper Sims. He is also survived by one great-grandson Nolan Deary, one sister Ann Goodman, and Sisters-in-law Lynda Reynolds and Dorris Duncan. He was preceded in death by his parents.

James enjoyed competitive shooting while he was in the military, and recreational shooting sports after he retired. He also enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He took great pleasure in introducing his children and grandchildren to the activities he enjoyed including teaching them marksmanship and firearm safety. He was willing to go into great detail in properly instructing his children and grandchildren to improve their skills in the sports and activities he enjoyed.
