Isaiah 30:19
He Hears and Answers
Written by Francis Taylor

God is promising the people of Judah that the Lord will take care of them and not to trust human leaders to protect them. The people don't listen and form alliances that lead to war and devastation and eventual exile. God keeps trying to tell us the same thing. We need to trust in him. We depend on our leaders to keep us safe. How often do we think of praying for them? How often do we pray for our country, our city, our neighborhoods? God listens to us and he answers. Sometimes we don't understand the answer because we are asking for the wrong thing. Do we pray that our leaders do what we want them to do, or do we pray that they listen to God and do his will? Do our actions support our prayers?

For example, do we vote for candidates who do our will, or do God's will? Do we support programs that promote justice for all? In our workplace do we treat everyone with dignity? Do we do the same in our neighborhoods? Do we pray for those we consider to be enemies? We may not understand the viewpoints of other people, or cultures, but do we pray that they, too, listen to the voice of God and follow his will for them?

Last year, twelve young boys and their young coach were trapped in a cave in Thailand. Every news cast showed people all over the world praying for their rescue. It made no difference what language they prayed in, or what religion they professed, everyone was praying. It took time and the efforts of many people from many countries working together to remove water from the cave, to get food and oxygen to the boys and they were finally rescued. The following day, the pumps broke and the water rushed in and the cave filled. We prayed, God listened, the boys lived. When we pray, he hears and answers. The question is, are we praying?

Prayer
Gracious God, you are always there for us, all we need to do is reach out in faith and trust, pray and know that you are listening. Thank you. Amen.

I am sharing the morning devotional I gave for our Friends Chapel …. I hope it reaches someone who needs the love of Jesus.

10/30/22 Devotional

It’s His Love

I do not need to ask any of you here these questions… but in order to make my point of today’s devotional… I will ask … how many of you love Jesus? How many of you believe that Jesus loves you? And, Why? Think about “WHY?”

Most of us when we were first born, our mothers loved us, unconditionally. But as we got older, and we started understanding words, and umm, discipline, we found that Mom or Dad would punish us if we did something that didn’t please them, such as myself when I discovered my daughter (probably 4 years old) had drawn a “picture” with her crayons on the wall of the apartment we were renting. I scolded her and got a bucket of soapy water and a rag, and made her scrub the drawing off the wall.

When we went to school, we had to deal with the teachers. I can only speak for myself, but due to my abusive upbringing, I found school to be my safe place, and I was most always a good student, I wasn’t really a teachers pet, but I yearned to please them, as they most always encouraged me. So, Sunday school was also my safe place, and I learned there, that Jesus loved me. I suppose that love of His, was what I held on to. Even when I strayed from God’s Word, and was no longer encouraged to attend church.

But, my Grandma, was mostly my anchor to God’s Love and the Love of Jesus.. she planted that little mustard seed in my heart.. and yes, once a year during the summer vacation, she had to bring that seed back to life, because, my father had strayed, and the women he married did not nurture that seed. Grandma’s love was filled with the Love of Jesus.

But, I can say, this, even the times when I did not attend church, or read the Bible, or even pray… when I flip through the pages of my life and look at scenes that took place… every single time, I can now see that through it all, Jesus still loved me. He was there always. Cause, if it were not for His love for me, I would not be sharing this story with you…. I would be dead… not just physically but also spiritually. I went round robin so to speak in my walk with Jesus, losing touch with Jesus and what He did for me. But flipping through the story book of my life, that is Why, I know without a doubt, that Jesus Loves me.

Yesterday morning as I was seeking inspiration for a devotional this morning, Cal was playing music. And one of the songs he played was song “ ”…. As I listened to this beautiful song, I emotionally imagined myself singing this song to Jesus. And I do not know if what I have done to Mr. McGraws song could be called plagiarism, but it inspired me to change the words and meaning to the following… I hope that Mr. Tim McGraw is pleased, and not offended, and I do hope I have not broken any legal rights..

I have titled it “It’s His Love” so if you know Mr. McGraws song, you can sing this to that tune. Me, I cannot carry a note, so I will just read it.

Oh, it's a beautiful thing
I can no longer keep it in
I just gotta let everyone know
What it is that won't let me go
It's His forever love
It has done something to me
It made a change in me
I just can't get enough
And if you wonder what is different
It is because He was sent
From up above.
To give each of us His love
He made me better than I was
And more than I am
And all of this happened
By taking His outreached hand.
And the person I am now
Is who I always yearned to be
And now that I have His Spirit within me
I'm stronger than ever, I'm happy and free
Oh, it's a beautiful thing
I just can no longer keep it in…
And if you ask me what has changed…
All I gotta do is say His sweet name
His love did something to me
His ways changed me
I can't get enough, but His love is for each of us…
And if you wonder who He is…
His name is Jesus.

Monday, 9/19/2022

This morning as I read the Daily Devotion from the Bible App I have on my iPad, I was touched by Ms. Taylors writing. And after reading it, I looked up the verse she was referring to. As I normally do, I read the whole chapter that the devotional refers to. So I read all of First Timothy 4, Verses 1 through 16. I must say, that I believe this to be my favorite chapter in finally having something I can relate to and understand! In fact the first verses 1 through 5, was like an eye opener to my Spirit! It said what my heart has always told me, yet I could never find the words to confirm it! I will let those who read this, read it on their own… I will not try to encourage the reader to be influenced by my own heart.. I will only say, that this chapter opened my heart wide and has removed any doubt that pops up in my mind. This will be the Chapter that I will read any time I feel troubled or feel as if I am a failure as a Christian. I hope that you will feel the blessings that I feel this morning… And I thank all my Payer Warriors who have prayed for me in my request for prayer over an unspoken matter. You have lifted me up!

Devotional from Holy Bible App

A Young Witness
1 Timothy 4:12-13

12: Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13: Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

By Francis Taylor

Paul is giving Timothy both encouragement and instruction. Timothy is obviously young, but he has been chosen to preach. He is told, however, to be a good example of Christianity. Paul knows that the people will be watching him. He is also told to study as well as to encourage and to teach. We have been called to be disciples because of our Baptism. We too must be good examples of the Christianity we proclaim. It doesn't matter if we are young or old, we are expected to imitate Christ in our way of life, in how we show love to one another and by our moral choices. We are also expected to grow in our knowledge of the faith by reading the Scriptures, and to encourage others to be faithful and to teach others by word and example. We should never stop learning! I'm constantly amazed by how much I have forgotten of what I have read. And I am also surprised that a passage I have read many times before now has a different meaning to me. That's because Scripture is a living word. I know I have said that before, but we sometimes need reminding. This is one of the reasons passages of Scripture appear in more than one book in the Bible and sometimes with expanded meaning. Jesus himself quotes Scripture and gives a new interpretation, a clearer understanding of its meaning. Just as Timothy had Paul as his teacher, we also might seek out others who can help us understand what it means to be a Christian and also who will support us as we witness our faith to others.

Prayer

Lord, it helps that you have given us encouragement as well as resources to enable us to be better witnesses to others of the joy of being a Christian. Amen.

Here’s our schedule. I am excited to meet you personally.

I struggled as to whether to share this devotional that I gave Sunday.. but in admitting my fear, and accepting God’s Will, I am going to receive one of His Blessings… a blessing of physical healing today.

JUNE 12
DEVOTIONAL

I need to have the tissues ready for this one..

I have been struggling with fear. Fear of failure and fear of losing all that I love.
Fear of not being able to complete a task that I chose/ thought was what God wanted of me.
And Then while I was searching for a devotional and not even feeling one enter my heart.. I came across this one.. and it was as if this was meant for me to read.

I am sorry that this may not have ever happened to you and I don’t like that it seems to be all about me.. as I so desire to be able to lift others up by what I do or say…
And I have failed myself…. I was crying as I read the devotional and as I typed these very words last night.
Good Reasons Not To Fear

“The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 (NIV)

During my husband’s consult appointment for a routine medical procedure, the nurse practitioner ordered a second, more uncommon test.
Upon reading more about the potential diagnosis the test could confirm, I felt annoyed. Why couldn’t my husband take better care of himself? Why was the medical staff so insensitive about such a serious test?
God enacted a heart-check of His own: Why are you angry?
My quick response surprised me and annoyed me more: I’m afraid.
I knew I was not supposed to be afraid — doesn’t the Bible say so 365 times? But the heart-check continued: Why are you afraid?
My answers made me squirm. I’m afraid of losing my husband. I’m afraid of living life without him. I’m afraid of being responsible for everything if he is incapacitated.
I suspect we have all faced fear at some point in life, and what we fear varies for each of us. Fear often springs from past memories or the unknown future. We may not even realize what we fear until we get into a dangerous situation. Then fear has a name, and we scramble to figure out how to cope and shake it off.
The Bible — in addition to telling us not to fear 365 times — often gives reasons for God’s instructions. I love that! It’s like God knew we would ask why and how.
Psalm 27 specifically explains why we don’t need to fear even the most dangerous situation: “The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).
David, the writer of this psalm, had good reason to struggle with fear. The Philistine army stood in front of him, and jealous, murderous King Saul was at his back. Yet David gave three reasons why confidence in God’s character can strengthen us to face any fear we feel.
1. God is our Guide. “The LORD is my light …” (Psalm 27:1a) Light illuminates a dark path, showing us where to step and what to avoid. When we cry to God for help, He shares His wisdom with us so we will know how to avoid danger and bad decisions that could make the circumstances worse. (James 1:5-6)
2. God is our Rescuer. “The LORD is my … salvation—whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1a) If we do find ourselves caught in a bad situation, God has the power and willingness to save us from harm. We may wonder why God allowed us to get so far into the mess in the first place, but when He rescues us, we can have no doubt it came from Him.
3. God is our Protector. “The LORD is the stronghold of my life …” NIV The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. A stronghold is a place fortified against attack. For David, it could have been a series of caves where his men could stay hidden and safe from storms, wild animals and the pursuit of King Saul. His stronghold probably held a strong defense line of well-trained soldiers, weapons and other supplies. For us, God Himself is our secure location. His power acts as a heavenly shield against any spiritual enemy that seeks to destroy us.
Whatever you might face — storm, sickness or strife — you can live in confidence that God stands ready to help you move past your fear through His guidance, salvation and protection. He can handle whatever fear you face.

As James stated… Does God allows us to be tested on our Faith to get our Faith stronger…

Thank You, Father, that You are bigger and stronger than anything in this world. I can lay aside any fear because You are with me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Faith, Prayer and Praise

Today, this devotional is brought to you by what I feel that God put in my heart to share.

First, Faith.. what is faith?
The Oxford definition of faith is…
1. A complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
2. A strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

So there are two different definitions of faith.. I have faith in my husband, I trust him, and I am confident in him.. I have trust for friends and family. Well to an extent.. see Faith in the human worldly since can be lost when someone we trust lets us down.. and since we are human, we sometimes fail in keeping the trust of others.. why? Well simply put we are human.. we falter, we make mistakes, we sin. And to be honest, I sometimes do not trust myself. And before I go to the next definition.. when a child is born, the infant is dependent on its mother and father to protect and nourish. So it is natural to have faith in family.

On the other hand.. Faith in God, is a whole other level…. Having faith in God is something that requires unconditional trust. Having such faith is challenging to someone who has been betrayed by a father, beaten, threatened by those who were supposed to give guidance for a child. Having such faith can be difficult for even adults, who have been beaten by a loved one, or betrayed by a spouse.

But, when we come to learn about God and Jesus, we yearn to become closer, we desire to please the Original Father of all creation. God, who so loved each of us He gave his Son, Jesus to be the way for you and me to have a loving relationship with Him. I choose to believe that Christ is a part of God, who came to the world by being born of a virgin, and to be flesh among men, and teach us how to love one another, as God loves us. We find all we need is Faith. And with faith we believe and trust in the Word of God. Our faith in God is a must in order to have the blessed relationship with the one and only God who will always bless us. So in conclusion.. to have Faith in God, we must put aside all matters of the fleshly desires, all hurts by others in our past. And desire not only to be saved and forgiven for our sins, but to live our lives to the best of our ability, serving God and being faithful to His Word.

And now about Prayer..

A question, thought. What is Prayer?

The most basic definition of prayer is “talking to God.” Prayer is not meditation or passive reflection; it is direct address to God.

Well, many consider prayer as a way to communicate with God.. Many use prayer as a way to ask for something we desire. We ask God to heal us or a family member or friend and even for a stranger. Some use prayer as if they are giving Santa a wish list.
I believe prayer is partially a petition to God for our needs, such as healing, and forgiveness and understanding.
But actually, I look at prayer as a different way to communicate with God. I want to come to God in prayer, like I would with a close friend, or even with my husband… I want Him to know how much I love him. I ask Him for guidance. I ask him to help me with this devotional. I tell Him of my worries. I beg Him to give me guidance and understanding. And I thank him for all the blessings he has given me. I believe in the power of prayer and this past week has been full of proof that God does answer our prayer requests. When they are unselfish requests and for the relief and healing of our bodies and those of others.

Then finally. Praise.. What is Praise?

To express warm approval or admiration of.

the expression of approval or admiration for someone or something.

Aahh.. think back when you were that child again, and you did something on your own or you accomplished something that you had worked on.. such as maybe passing an exam in school or getting a good report card. And the praise your parents gave to you about how proud they are of you. Or think of the words your son says to you when he is a grown man.. I love you dad. Thank you for all you have done for me… He is offering you praise for how you encouraged him..And the guidance you gave him to become a God loving man.

Well, Our Lord God .. our Heavenly Father deserves all our praise.. for everything!

I give God praise each morning for the beautiful sunrise, and if it a rainy day and cloudy, I see the beauty in that and thank Him for the rain that is needed. I give Him praise for protecting me, for His guidance. I look all around me and I see God in everything that is natural. The beauty in this place we now live in. The laughter of a child. I see such Godly beauty in the eyes of a new mother as she looks upon her newborn child. I Praise God for how He intervenes and answers our prayers when we come together in requests for healing. And finally I praise God for how He loves me.. I am in Love with God.. I admire Him. I know I will never be complete and perfect as He is, until I am finally as one with Him when He and Jesus bring in the New Jerusalem. It seems to me that Praise is somewhat like Thanks.. but so much more, we can give thanks to someone for a gift, or their help. And of course we thank God when we see that our prayer request has been answered.. but Praise is even more then that, because well, I guess it is like being at a movie theater and so moved by the story that we clap and show our appreciation of how the story touched us.. well Praise to God is almost hard to express because we are in so much awe of how He blesses us.. especially this past couple of weeks when I personally have been involved in requesting prayers for Cal, and also praying for others who have requested prayers.. all about healing. Here is a short version of a praise report I posted in my prayer group. Yesterday.

WOW… God is answering prayers.. Three now that I am aware of just within a few days.. in our prayer group, as well as three for me personally..so that makes six in total.. .. The one for the Mattox family.. (in fact there were two prayers simultaneously for the Mattox Family.. one for the young wife who had a horrific allergy reaction and the family was told to start preparing for the worse.. (death) which now as we know she is sitting up and talking and no longer in ICU. Praise GOD! As well as the Wife of Brother Mattox (the Missionary, who I forgot to mention has cancer.. so perhaps more prayers for him) she had a stroke, but now is home with some weakness on one side but, she is healing. Praise GOD!

Just now I read where Janice Irene Hefner who asked for unspoken prayer regarding her work.. and she was blessed by two who came and gave raving reviews of her work ethics with the head of where she worked… Praise GOD!

And then Jean Jones, who asked for prayers for her son who has not been able to eat for 6? Days, and has now eaten and is showing promise due to our prayers and Gods Healing… she thought she was going to lose him.. (please continue to Pray for him and Praise God!)

For me.. I am not sure if I recently asked in here,,, but I know that Thursday, Cal had a heart cath performed.. and he gave me permission to ask for prayers on my timeline.. The Surgeon found no reason for another Stent… which did not make sense. And as I shared on my page.. Cal’s demeanor changed on our way to the hospital as we were all praying… he was breathing well, he was acting his normal self, I felt a calmness. When we got home he was feeling better, except for the pain in his groin from the incision. Yesterday, he was still acting normal.. and get this.. the night before last as well as last night he did not use his oxygen! So,,, a special lady many of us know, I wont say her name but her initials are G.D-F… she offered a specific and clear prayer for Cal’s needs.. I do believe God heard all our prayers and hers, and did exactly as GD asked to clear the blockage in his veins and provide oxygen through his veins .. I PRAISE GOD HIGHLY for this! And then for me.. Cal found a dentist that can and will remove all my teeth! I go Monday for consultation and imprints? Also for me, I have been so tired (exhausted) from my own stress, and pain issues from my radiation treatments.. but today.. I was like Mr. Clean… I lasted till noon.. but I put a dent in it. And I had the energy to do it…and It is all because God does Answer Prayers.

Praising God for all things.. Continuing to pray to God for His guidance and the desire to do all things in His Word..

I love you all.. But my saying is :: God Loves You More. And so He does! Thank you for being a part of my personal growth and relationship with Christ our Lord and Savior and with God Almighty!

TRUST

Trust… for many of us, who have put our trust in someone, only to find out that the person was not really trustworthy, has caused us to be leery of trusting anyone ever again. Or at the least, we have learned to not put all our trust in one individual.
Many times our personal experience of trusting someone is expecting something from the individual.
Perhaps it was a friend, or even a sibling, whom we shared our personal feelings about something that we did not want anyone else to know. We just had to tell someone our secret! And then a week later we learned that our secret had been shared, and now the whole wide world knew our secret… and we felt what? Anger? Betrayed? Embarrassed?
Or maybe you went into a monetary agreement with someone you thought you knew, and you agreed to let this person have the old trailer for a certain amount of money, but he didn’t quite have enough, so you told him, go ahead and take the Trailer and you can pay me later when you get you paycheck.. Or a friend needed to borrow some money because, an emergency came up, and he did not have enough so you agreed to give him the money and he promised to get the money back to you as soon as he got paid….. Payday comes around… and you see your friend with a new motorcycle… You ask him for the money he owes you.. and he makes some sort of excuse.. like “I’m sorry man, I just couldn’t pass up this deal, it was too good to pass up… I will get the money to you next week, I promise!”… Next week comes and he avoids you.. You think what a chump you are.. and you will never trust anyone again. That does it!
Or, it is a relationship… You think you are in love… and you choose to marry someone, without really knowing the person, it is all feelings, and need. You go into the relationship with “expectations”… and just when you think everything is wonderful, you get hit with a bombshell, He/she was not who you thought they were. You caught your spouse with someone else! Or you find out that your spouse has a gambling addiction and has lost all the money you personally had saved to buy a home, yet you added him/she with BLIND trust to your accounts. You feel let down, and hurt and not ever going to trust again.
You find it hard to be open with anyone.. and you find yourself avoiding others, as you feel you can not trust anyone. Right?

But, if we look deeper into our heart, we realize we are just as much to blame. We put ourselves in a situation where we trusted the wrong people and for the wrong reasons..
Don’t feel bad, we have all been there. And we learn from these experiences, that we need to do responsible things to avoid being scammed or hurt by others.. such as background checks, or getting a contract in writing, and making it a legal document.. You put the other party in a position where they are responsible.

Now we come to a spiritual trust. This is a whole other way of looking at ourselves and others. When we are struggling with relationships, making ends meet, life in general, .. we are not happy with ourselves.. we find we can’t seem to trust our own ventures or decisions. No one seems to be able to make us happy. We are lost, we are empty.. and by some chance, if you want to call it that.. someone comes into your life and they invite you to their church. Oh you have heard of Jesus, it is just another thing people use to get you to give them money,.. you don’t have time for that, or you were burned out by it as a child when your mom drug you to church every Sunday.
BUT.. you see how happy this person is.. you see something maybe even radiance in their smile. You wonder, maybe you are wrong, yeah, you don’t want to trust anyone, you find all kinds of excuses.. but.. yeah… BUT.. you seem to hear, or more feel a need to check this out.. a small voice encourages you to go…

You learn about Jesus. You learn how He loved everyone, when He walked on earth, and that everyone was included not just His disciples during that time, or even the soldiers that mocked Him and hung Him on a cross, but His Love was for EVERYONE… me, the person that never paid you back, your brother that told your secret, the person that broke your heart, your dad that ran out on your mother, the bully that pushed you into the mud puddle.. and most important, HE LOVES YOU.

His promises are never broken. All He asked of you was to become like Him by following the Word of the Father, GOD. And to believe in Him, and to Trust Him.

OOPS.. there’s that word TRUST!… How do you trust God, when you just can’t trust anyone.. You can’t even trust yourself!

Ahh, but once you give your life over to Jesus and God the Father and you accept the Holy Spirit and start to be like Christ. You study the Bible.. you learn how to trust again, it is a process and the first one and really the only One to Trust in is God. He will never let you down, as long as your expectations are in line with His Will. And if you are not in line with Gods will, if you are honest with yourself, it is not God that let you down, it is You.

As James shared this morning…Psalm 2 12 the last saying was…Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

The following writing I came upon Friday, and as I read it, I felt this would be a good topic for a devotional… it is titled.

DIRECTION ... FROM GOD'S WORD
Several years ago I was presented with an opportunity that would most definitely change the course and direction of my life. I had never been good at making decisions, and this one was one of the biggest of my life. The decision required me moving my little family halfway across the country. I only had a couple of months to decide. I had sought the counsel of others (friends, relatives, etc.) but everything seemed foggy to me.

One night, as I was studying a Bible lesson for an upcoming children’s Bible study, I was reading the story of “Peter Walking on the Water” and the answer CAME TO ME in an instant. As I read how Peter stepped out of the comfort of his fishing boat to join Jesus walking on the water I realized that I, too, had to leave my comfort zone and step out into the unknown. I received direction for my life that night just by reading a simple story from the Bible … and I’m certain I made the right decision.

God’s Word is good like that. Psalms 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Sometimes we just don’t know what our next steps should be. We look to others for advice and counsel. We call friends and relatives and ask them what they would do in our situation. Although all of these avenues for direction are viable, can I suggest that we go to the Operator’s Manual and see what our Creator says? So many times I’ve read the Bible and gotten answers to my questions and direction for my journey simply from reading simple stories of those who have gone on before me. The Bible stories aren’t fiction. They are actual accounts of men and women who needed God’s help and direction, and He supplied them with their answer. I’ve always heard that we should “listen to the voice of experience.” The Bible is full of people whose experiences are written down for us to learn from and follow.

So, for those who are wondering what their next steps in life should be, before you go and ask everyone else what their advice and opinion is, I’d like to recommend a really good book to you. 🙂

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise;
Just to know, Thus saith the Lord.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him,
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er,
Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more.

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me,
'Neath the healing, cleansing flood.

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life, and rest, and joy, and peace.

I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
