- Day 16 of Lent -
Scripture teaches us to pray without ceasing. Our prayers should be like a dripping faucet that continues to drip day and night. How often do you pray? Do you wake up and thank God for the morning and his protection overnight? Do you have devotions and pray before you start your day? How about before you eat breakfast? Maybe before you pick up that phone to make a call? How about after that call? Or before you drive to work or to the store? Do you pray as you walk through the store asking God who needs a kind word?

When our lives get busy, we have less time for those we love. You may talk to your husband or your wife less often. You may talk to your children less often. You may talk to God less often. Make your prayers intentional today. Set a timer to go off each hour. When it goes off, spend a few minutes talking to God. It does not need to be a long prayer or a formal prayer. Just tell Him what you are thinking. Maybe praise Him or thank Him for something he has done for you. Or talk to Him about something that is bothering you. God loves you and wants to hear from you more often.

"Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NASB)

-Day 15 of Lent -
In two days, we will be celebrating communion. As part of communion, God commands that we confess our sins against God’s and others before taking communion. Are you harboring resentment? Did someone offend you? Did you sin against another person?

If you have ever participated in AA or Celebrate Recovery, you have made a list of people you have hurt and asked those people for forgiveness. This practice is good for all Christians. Make a list of people who you may have hurt or sinned against. Take one person from that list and ask him or her for forgiveness. You can stop by and visit the person or use the phone. Work towards reconciliation.

"Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive." (Colossians 3:13, NRSV)

- Day 14 of Lent -
Yesterday was about thankfulness. Today is about generosity. Are you a generous person? Do you give more than what is necessary or expected? In the Old Testament, God commands the Israelites to give 10% to God. The New Testament no longer includes a percentage, but commands us to “give generously.” Do you give generously to those in need?

Giving generously looks different for each person. For some, it is giving money to someone in need. For others, it is giving necessities to those in need. Still others give through organizations that may be better equipped to know individual needs or can pool donations together to make a bigger impact. Money isn’t the only thing to give generously. Time is another commodity that is often in short supply. Do you give generously when you are listening to a neighbor or family member that needs to talk? Do you give generously when a child needs you to know how much you care? Spend some time praying about how God wants you to give generously, and then go follow His direction.

"A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed." (Proverbs 11:25, ESV)

- Day 13 of Lent -
Each of us have so much for which to be thankful. If you have repented of your sins and believed on Jesus Christ, you will have an eternity to thank God for his mercy. For without the mercy of God, every person who is alive today would be bound for an eternity in Hell. But your salvation isn’t the only thing for which you should be thankful to God. You are breathing. You have eyes with which to read this or ears with which to listen to this. You have been given a mind with which you can know God and a heart with which you can love God. Take some time and put together a list of items that you are thankful to God for. Thank Him for those things.

But, God isn’t the only person to whom we owe thanks. For most of us, we have people in our lives who have helped us. I have a long list of those for whom I am thankful. Start by making a list of people who you are thankful for and why you are thankful for them. Many people may be thankful, but they don’t often express that gratitude. Then one day it becomes too late because God has taken that person away from you when there was so much left unsaid. Pick one person from that list and make a phone call or a visit today to thank him or her for all they have done. Don’t stop at one; live a life of thanksgiving and continue to thank God and others each day that He gives you.

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." (Colossians 4:2, NIV)

- Day 12 of Lent -
What are you passionate about? Where do you spend your time? Outside of work, we spend time doing the things we are passionate about. For some of us, it is our family. For others, it is ministry. Yet others are passionate about sports or other forms of entertainment. Psalms 37:4 teaches us that if we delight in the Lord, he will give us the desires of our heart. These desires, given to us by God, often come out in our passions. For some, these passions that God puts in our hearts will be to protect the lives of the unborn. For others, these passions will be to share the gospel with others.

Take time to do something you are passionate about. Is there a ministry at which you would like to volunteer? Is there a ministry that you would like to support? Is there a person or people for whom you would like to speak out? Find a place to get involved, a place where you can serve God.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9, NIV)

- Day 11 of Lent -
Prayer is an important part of a Christian’s life. We worship God through prayer; we confess our sins through prayer; and we petition God through prayer. God commands us to pray without ceasing.

Make a list of people who you know. Include family members, friends, and those you work with. Include those who you go to church with, your neighbors, and those you come in contact with around town. If your children are in school, include his or her teachers as well.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (Thessalonians 5:16-19, ESV)
