Music Director / Organist / Pianist
First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ – Wiscasset, Maine
Nestled in the heart of one of Maine’s most beautiful historic villages, the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset has been worshipping God since 1773. We are an Open & Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ seeking a gifted, collaborative, and Spirit-led Music Director who will help shape inspiring worship and build a joyful music ministry for our congregation and community.
Position: Part-Time (approximately 8–12 hours per week)
Responsibilities
● Serve as organist and pianist for Sunday worship (10:00 a.m.) and special services including Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, and other seasonal celebrations.
● Direct and nurture our volunteer choir through regular rehearsals.
● Collaborate with the pastor to select music that complements scripture, the sermon, and the liturgical season.
● Provide preludes, offertories, postludes, hymn accompaniment, and choir anthems.
● Encourage congregational singing and help create worship that is both beautiful and spiritually meaningful.
● Recruit and mentor musicians within the congregation and community.
● Assist in planning occasional concerts, hymn sings, or community musical events that connect the church with the wider Midcoast community.
Qualifications
● Proficiency in both organ and piano.
● Experience accompanying congregational singing and directing choirs.
● Strong organizational and communication skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, volunteers, and church staff.
● Appreciation for the inclusive values and ministry of the United Church of Christ.
● Degree in music preferred but not required; equivalent experience welcomed.
Compensation
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
