We talked about this in the sermon last week: Jesus gives us direction-- as does the woman at the well-- in what it is we should do. Be open, ask questions, be willing to be uncomfortable, be willing to learn from and engage with those who are different from us-- and who might be people we even dislike or with whom we disagree.

BBT reminds us that God is not only in places of beauty, but in places that are the hard, difficult, and sometimes muddy work of love.

We hope that you will join us for a Holy Lent. Ash Wednesday services are held this Wednesday. Pope Leo has a wonderful letter for Lent this year, well worth your time. He invites us into another kind of fasting this Lent:

"In this regard, I would like to invite you to a very practical and frequently unappreciated form of abstinence: that of refraining from words that offend and hurt our neighbor. Let us begin by disarming our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgement, refraining from slander and speaking ill of those who are not present and cannot defend themselves. Instead, let us strive to measure our words and cultivate kindness and respect in our families, among our friends, at work, on social media, in political debates, in the media and in Christian communities. In this way, words of hatred will give way to words of hope and peace." Will you join us?

We join the family, friends and many colleagues to mourn the passing of our dear Cabby Tennis, and give thanks for his life and his witness. Cabby presided over many services at Methow Episcopal, memorable for his Santa hat in vestments at Christmas in particular, his outsized presence and influence, his humor and good will. "Relationship is everything," he said in one of his sermons, reminding us of the deeply personal nature of our walk together with Jesus. His service will be held at St. Mark's Cathedral on February 28 at 10:30 AM.

It was a holy night, and we rejoice in the Incarnation today, the God made man, the indwelling of light and of love which will save each of us and all of us if we will accept it. This ancient sacred story brought to us each year, and each moment. Merry Christmas!

Join us for our service of Lessons and Carols today at 4:30 PM, first held in 1880, and then was adapted in Ireland and in the United States in 1914 and 1916.

Most famously it was performed at King's College, Cambridge beginning in 1918 and adapted in 1919. It has been broadcast from that location every year since, with the exception of 1930-- including through the Second World War when the glass and heat were missing from the church.

We will endeavor to do justice to this special tradition for the second year on our small mountain community, and would love for you to join us this Advent 4 at 4:30 PM.
