Our love and sympathy to family and friends of Steve Stoddard. Visitation will be held this evening from 4-8pm at Kirby Funeral Home. The funeral service will be tomorrow, June 7, at 10am, in the Sanctuary at First Church of Winthrop, United Methodist.

May we join in prayer:

Eternal God,
we praise you for the great company of all those
who have finished their course in faith
and now rest from their labor.
We praise you for those dear to us
whom we name in our hearts before you.
Especially we praise you for Steve Stoddard,
whom you have graciously received into your presence.
To all of these, grant your peace.
Let perpetual light shine upon them;
and help us so to believe where we have not seen,
that your presence may lead us through our years,
and bring us at last with them
into the joy of your home
not made with hands but eternal in the heavens;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A prayer for the evening:
Wondrous Lord, we marvel that this day has ended, filled with marks of your love even in moments of strife. Now give us rest. Comfort those who have no bed this night, and keep them safe. We bow our heads in gratitude for food, work, friends, family, challenges, and accomplishments. We pray this in the name of the One who watches over us day and night. Amen.

Breath Prayers are a great way to center ourselves in God’s loving presence, repeating the phrase as we breathe in and out:

Breathe in: “Loving God…”
Breathe out: “…watch over me.”

A prayer for the morning:
Good and gracious God, we rise with the morning light to give you thanks for rest and dreams, for warmth and safety, for the delight we have again today in a life filled with your goodness. Keep us in your care this day that we may walk in your path, glad for our friends, praying for our enemies, and eager to hear your Word; in Jesus’ name. Amen.

This Sunday we'll read from the book of Acts. In chapter 16 we hear the story of how Paul and Silas are miraculously freed from prison. May we also experience God's freedom, and work for a world where all can know God's liberation.

"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was an earthquake, so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were unfastened."

Breath Prayers are a great way to center ourselves in God’s loving presence, repeating the phrase as we breathe in and out:

Breathe in: “In Christ…”
Breathe out: “…I am free.”

"See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." And the one who was seated on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new."

This Sunday we'll read these words from Revelation 21, where John of Patmos describes his vision of God who is "making all things new." Wherever we are, whatever life situation we find ourselves in, may we know this truth, that God is making all things new, in our lives, in our relationships, and in our world.

A prayer for the morning:
Delivering God,
each day we awaken to your goodness
and our hearts cry out in praise
as you set us to tasks for the life of the world.
Do not let us hinder your love,
but strengthen our will,
as we offer thanks in every simple gesture of this day. Amen.

Breath Prayers are a great way to center ourselves in God’s loving presence, repeating the phrase as we breathe in and out:

Breathe in: “God is making…
Breathe out: “…all things new.”
