SUNDAY PREVIEW
JOIN US AT 9am
Deuteronomy 5:11-15
Rules for Living in Gods House

This Sunday we are in week 2 of our series on the Ten Commandments “Rules for living in God’s house”, which is just a small part of our greater study through Deuteronomy.

Commandments 1-4 can be seen as the rules that establish whose house it is that Christians belong to:
#1 - God owns the house and everything in it
#2 - None of the good things in the house are as valuable as living in the house itself
#3 - God’s people are not to bring shame or reproach upon His house/name
#4 - God’s children are to have faith in His providential care over them

As we study the Ten Commandments, it needs to be continually emphasized that NO ONE succeeds in obeying these commands on a daily basis. God’s law reveals to us that there are no “good people” in this world according to His holy standard, there are only two categories of individuals: wretched sinners who are redeemed by God’s mercy, and wretched sinners who have rejected His mercy.

Commandment #3 “You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain” reminds us that those who profess to be Christians will regularly struggle with not profaning God’s holy name, whether it be through our speech, public behavior, private behavior, private thoughts, poor theology, and even false teachings.

Commandment #4 “remember the Sabbath and keep it holy” reminds us how the Sabbath day is a regular reminder of God’s providential care in our lives, and how we are not to develop a self-righteous attitude that our own abilities do not save or sustain us.

Ultimately, since the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we can now see how Christ brings a greater fulfillment to these commandments! It is in Jesus’ name that we are saved and we are to preach His name to the world for their salvation, and it is only in Jesus Christ that we find our eternal Sabbath rest, and everyday we are to “keep the Sabbath” by treating Christ as holy in our hearts.

Join us this Sunday to hear more about how all are invited to bear the name of Jesus and to know what it is to trust in Him for eternal rest and peace, and to be saved from their sins through the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Sincerely, as one who is simply forgiven by God,
Pastor Corwin
