Winterville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Winterville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) We meet each Sunday at 10:30 AM

Winterville Christian Church is affiliated with the Christian Church Disciples of Christ. ALL BELONG HERE 1.

We believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. This statement is more than words or simply a confession of faith. Jesus came to show us the profound love of God, a love that lifted up the downtrodden and affirmed the powerless. We are to express that same kind of love, which goes against some social norms and expectations.

2. We believe that The Lord’s Table is an open and inclusive tabl

e. Communion, which we celebrate weekly, is open to all persons who love Jesus as the Christ, regardless of age, denomination, or theological beliefs. We believe that Jesus called everyone to table fellowship. The table becomes a symbol of our hospitality – open and affirming to all people. When we partake, we are asked to examine ourselves, to make our confession, and to commit to a deeper form of the Christian journey when we eat of this Love Feast.

3. We believe in the ministry of all believers. Each member and participant of our church is gifted in many ways; each is a minister of the church. We seek to use our gifts corporately, as the body of Christ. None is more important than another. The focus of leadership in the church is not through controlling power, but through “servant leadership”.

4. We believe in the love of unity. Recognized or not, we are in relation to one another as persons and through nature. “Unity is our polar star” has been a theme of the Disciples. We believe that we are to work together as denominations to be the witnesses of Christ. Actually, unity is not something for which we strive; we are united though at times we are not conscious of our unity. We seek to help people recognize this unity and to use the power of unity to serve God in this community.

5. We believe in the justice of God. We are called to love and serve all of God’s people. We are to serve the marginalized people in our community. We are called to take a stand on social issues that demand a Christian response, rather than an acceptable and non-offensive response. This takes us back to the first belief – to confess Jesus as Christ means that we serve in ways that Christ would have served. Ultimately, we die seeking to love all people.

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Worship Leader
We are Winterville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. Our 3 areas of focused ministry are: all are welcome, creation care & anti-racism, and pro-reconciliation.

CALL TO WORSHIP 6-14-26
Leader: Jesus saw the crowds and was moved with compassion.
People: We come to worship the One who knows our needs and loves us completely.
Leader: Christ calls us to share God's love and proclaim the good news.
People: Freely we have received; freely we will give.
Leader: Come, let us worship the Lord.
People: With grateful hearts, we worship God!

OPENING PRAYER 6-14-26
Compassionate God,
We gather today grateful for the love and mercy You have shown us through Jesus Christ. As He looked upon the crowds with compassion, help us to see our neighbors through Your eyes. Open our hearts to the needs around us and awaken in us a desire to serve faithfully.
Lord Jesus, You call ordinary people to share Your good news, to bring healing where there is hurt, hope where there is despair, and love where there is loneliness. Strengthen us for the work to which You have called us. Give us courage to follow You, wisdom to serve You, and generosity to share the gifts we have freely received.
As we worship today, fill us with Your Holy Spirit. Renew our faith, inspire our discipleship, and send us forth as witnesses to Your grace and compassion.
In the name of Christ, who calls and sends us, we pray.
Amen.

PRAYERS FOR THE BREAD & CUP Elder
God of Grace, we come to this table remembering Jesus Christ, who calls us to service above all things. As we receive this bread and cup, remind us that we are nourished, always, by your love and presence. May these gifts renew our spirits, and unite us as the body of Christ, called to serve a world in need of hope, healing, and peace. May this meal empower us, and remind us that we do not go alone, for Christ goes before us, beside us, and within us. Through Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation, we pray. Amen.
WORDS OF INSTITUTION Rev. Annell George-McLawhorn
SHARING THE BREAD & THE CUP, ALL ARE WELCOME AT THE LORD’S TABLE.

COMMUNION MUSIC: “Medley: Jesus Calls Us, I Surrender All, Jesus Is Calling, Where He Leads Me & I Have Decided” comp. Benfield
To partake in communion, the deacons will usher your row to come forward. Then, you are invited to tear off a piece of the bread, dip the bread into the cup, and partake. If you are unable to come forward, let the deacons know and communion will be brought to you.

INVITATION TO THE WINTERVILLE CHRISTIAN CHURCH FAMILY Rev. Annell George-McLawhorn

CLOSING HYMN v. 1, 3 & 5 “The Summons” (“Will You Come and Follow Me”) Bell, c. 1987, Iona Community, GIA Publications, Inc.

1. Will you come and follow Me
If I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know
And never be the same?
Will you let My love be shown,
Will you let My name be known,
Will you let My life be grown
In you and you in Me?

2. Will you leave yourself behind
If I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
And never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
Should your life attract or scare?
Will you let Me answer prayer
In you and you in Me?

5. Lord, Your summons echoes true
When You but call my name.
Let me turn and follow You
And never be the same.
In Your company I’ll go
Where Your love and footsteps show.
Thus I’ll move and live and grow
In You and You in me.

🌿 It’s time for a Church Workday! 🌿

Next Saturday, June 6, from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, we’ll be gathering for an “all hands on deck” yard work day at the church!

You are encouraged to bring any yard tools or equipment you have available, such as hedge trimmers, pruning shears, rakes, gloves, or anything else that might be useful (we really aren’t picky!).

Many hands make light work! We hope to see you there as we continue to care for and beautify our church grounds together!

What a beautiful Sunday together at church!

This Pentecost Sunday, we celebrated the UNITING gift of the Holy Spirit, honored those who’ve served our country, and shared wonderful fellowship around the table at our covered dish lunch.

Thank you to everyone who brought food, shared stories, and made the day so special!

Next week, our worship service will take place in the fellowship hall, and breakfast will be served starting at 10:00 AM! We look forward to worshiping with you!
