Spring Break
Enjoy your Spring Break and get ready for Pesach!
There is no school on the following days:
Sunday, March 15
Wednesday, March 18

Little Pantry
Please help our wider community of Winter Springs and bring non-perishable food to our Temple Israel pantry situated on the sidewalk in front of our building.
If you would like to help but are not able to bring food items in person, we have set up a Zeffy link for monetary contributions. 100% of your contributions will be used to purchase food for the pantry. Please go to http://tinyurl.com/TI-fights-hunger.
It is a wonderful mitzvah to help all those in our community.

Judaic Studies
Today we learned about Passover. We learned some of the key terms during Passover like Haggadah, Seder, and afikomen. We read a book where the students were assigned roles in the Passover story and read parts. We also gave out plague finger puppets. Finally, we made fortune tellers with Passover questions on them. The students did great at helping each other with this project.
Hebrew 3/4
In Hebrew today the students write a sentence using Hebrew letters. This made their brains work hard as there are several English sounds that we don’t have in Hebrew. Then we played a speed game with two teams to find words in the prayers we have been working on and sequence words in prayers.
END OF THE YEAR HEBREW TESTING FOR K-4
After Passover, we will begin end of the year Hebrew testing. We spoke to the students about this today so each student knows what they need to work on. Every student will receive prizes for working hard this year and showing up. Students that have reached their goals will reserve an extra achievement prize. The expectations to earn these prizes are different for each Hebrew group based on what that group has been working on this year. Group A needs to know the aleph bet letters that their group has worked on (currently up to ayin).
Group B needs to know all of the aleph bet letters and 3 vowel sounds (any 3 will do).
Group C needs to know all of the aleph bet letters, all of the vowels, and at least 3 finals.
The third and fourth grade Hebrew group has been working on reading prayers all year. They have been assessed throughout the year to ensure they were learning them. To earn their prizes, they need to be able to read all of the prayers they have learned this year (indicated with black stars on the practice pages that went home today).
Please let us know if we can support your child in any way to achieve these goals. Mrs. Megan and Mrs. Tricia are happy to provide resources, ways to practice, and even stay after school to discuss ways to support your student in reaching their goals.

We started our day with the Torah story of Moses from Exodus. The kids really seemed to enjoy it and kept asking for more! 😊
In Judaic Studies, I created an “Escape Egypt” activity to help the kids review the lessons and history of Passover in a fun way. We talked about the symbolism of the traditional Seder plate, as well as other symbolic foods that can be added to a modern Seder plate to include and represent more marginalized groups. The kids worked together to solve clues and successfully “escape Egypt” as a team.
Hebrew K-2
In Hebrew, we explained to the children that everyone will receive something special for all their hard work this year. There will also be a bonus gift for students who have reached certain milestones:
Group A: Knowing the Alef-Bet
Group B: Knowing the Alef-Bet plus some vowels
Group C: Knowing the Alef-Bet, including final letters, as well as vowels
Each child has been assessed throughout the school year, and that information has been sent home. I asked the children if they had what they needed to review and practice at home, and anyone who requested flashcards was sent home with them. Please feel free to reach out if there is anything else I can do to support your child’s learning.
In Group A, we added the letter Ayin. The students put together Alef-Bet puzzles in order, then reviewed the letters and sounds out of order. They also used moon sand with Alef-Bet cookie cutters to quiz each other, which they loved.
Groups B and C played a matching game with final letters and vowels, and then worked in their workbooks reading letter blends out loud.

We played a new Hebrew game called Hebrew Ninja. In Judaic Studies, we learned about Rabbi Isaac Alfasi, or the Rif. We then had a Havdalah service in Minecraft, and then passed around different spices and guessed what they were. Hope everyone has a great Spring Break!
