Arlington Events Marking the 25th Anniversary of 9/11

-- Museum Exhibit: First on the Scene: Arlington Responds to September 11

The exhibit explores Arlington’s immediate response to the attack on the Pentagon. Through photographs, artifacts, and firsthand accounts, the exhibit highlights the firefighters, emergency personnel, and community members who responded in the critical minutes and hours following the attack and honors the courage and service that defined Arlington’s response. A meaningful tribute returns to Flight 93 National Memorial this week.

On September 9–10, visitors can watch 20 artists from across the country create chalk portraits honoring the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93 along the Flight Path Walkway at the Visitor Center Complex.

Each portrait serves as a unique, hand-crafted tribute to the heroes of Flight 93.

The completed artwork will remain on display through September 20, weather permitting. Though the portraits are temporary and will naturally fade over time, they offer a powerful opportunity to reflect on the lives, courage, and legacy of the 40.

🇺🇸 FACT OF THE DAY: 9/11 FLAG OF HONOR

The 9/11 Flag of Honor began with John Michelotti, who wanted to make sure the people lost on September 11 were remembered as individuals not just a number. He and his wife compiled the names of those killed, and those names became part of an American flag, creating a lasting memorial.

The Flag of Honor carries the names of those who died at the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and aboard the four aircraft, turning the American flag itself into a “people’s memorial.” Its purpose is simple: to honor every life, remember their stories, and ensure future generations Never Forget.

❤️ Remember them by name. Remember their lives. Remember 9/11.
