Yesterday, St. John’s, together as a congregation, affirmed Westminster Confession of Faith 21:5.

God has not left His church wondering how He is to be worshiped.

He calls His people to gather around ordinary means; His Word read, His Word preached, prayer offered, and psalms sung.

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Yesterday we saw that the blessed life begins with the Lord Jesus Christ; but why is that?

Because in Christ, God has graciously given His people every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.

Psalm 119 opens by declaring blessing over those who walk in the ways of the Lord. Yet Scripture also reminds us that the source of that blessedness is not found in ourselves, but in Christ.

In Him we are chosen.
In Him we are adopted.
In Him we are redeemed and forgiven.
In Him we are sealed by the Holy Spirit and promised an eternal inheritance.

The blessed life begins with Christ because every blessing we need before God is found in Him.

And from that grace, we learn to walk in His ways.

When we read the beginning words of Psalm 119 honestly, we’re confronted with how far we fall short. None of us has walked in perfect obedience. None of us has kept God’s law without wandering.

That’s why Psalm 119 does more than instruct us; it leads us to Christ.

Jesus Christ is the truly blessed man.
He alone loved the Father’s law perfectly, walked in flawless obedience and fulfilled the righteousness God requires.

And by faith, all who are united to Him share in His righteousness and receive the blessing He secured for sinners.

Psalm 119 ultimately points us beyond ourselves and lifts our eyes to Christ.

Who is the truly blessed man in Psalm 119?

Ultimately, the answer is Jesus Christ.

He obeyed perfectly where we failed.
He bore our shame.
He carried our judgment.
He was forsaken in our place

so that sinners like you and me could be brought near to God.

Psalm 119 doesn’t merely show us the standard we fail to keep, it points us to the Savior who fulfilled it for us.

“Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord.” — Psalm 119:1

Psalm 119 teaches that true blessedness is not found in success, comfort, or the things of this world, but in walking with the Lord.

For generations, Presbyterians have sung these words together. Since its approval by the Westminster Assembly in 1647, the 1650 Scottish Psalter has continued to give voice to the prayers, praise, and longings of God’s people, reminding us that God’s Word is timeless and sufficient for every age.

Above all, Psalm 119 points us to Jesus Christ, the truly righteous and blessed One, who walked perfectly in obedience where we have failed, and through whom sinners are brought near to God.

On Memorial Day, we remember with gratitude those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Today we honor the memory of the fallen, give thanks to God for His mercies, and pray for comfort for grieving families in the steadfast hope in Christ.

As Christians, we also remember that every earthly sacrifice points beyond itself to the greater love of Christ:

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
— John 15:13

Marriage is one of the most important earthly commitments we make, and Scripture calls us to approach it with wisdom and prayer.

In this week’s sermon from Nehemiah 10, Rev. Cavalli reminded us that covenant faithfulness touches every part of life, including who we pursue in marriage. As Christians, we are not only called to marry a believer, but to seek a spouse who is growing in maturity, faithfulness, and devotion to Christ.

True blessedness is not found in the things of this world, but in belonging to the Lord and walking according to His Word.

This Lord’s Day, Rev. Isaías Godoy will preach from Psalm 119:1–8, a passage that calls God’s people to seek Him wholeheartedly and delight in His commandments.

Join us as we gather for the worship of God this Sunday at 10:30am!

In Nehemiah 10, the people of God did more than confess their sin; they identified the specific places where they had conformed to the world around them and renewed their commitment to walk in obedience before the Lord.

This past Lord’s Day, Rev. Frank Cavalli preached on how true repentance leads to covenant renewal and gospel-shaped obedience.

“The fuel to be different from the world is not guilt. It’s the gospel.”

By the grace of Christ, believers are called to live faithfully in every area of life, trusting not in themselves, but in Christ, the great covenant keeper.
