🗓 On This Date 🗓 September 1, 1873—Lottie Moon sailed for China.

At 32 years old, she had been appointed by the Foreign Mission Board (now IMB) just weeks earlier. She sailed for Tengchow, China, and for the next 39 years she called China home—sharing the gospel, serving the people, and leaving a lasting legacy of missions.

Today—152 years later—her faithful witness continues to inspire through the ongoing work of IMB and WMU, all to the glory of God. 🌎✝️

🚨PLEASE STOP AND PRAY WITH US

Over a year ago, we planned to feature church planting missionaries Tyler and Ashley Martin for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering Week of Prayer on March 8th and 9th. At the time, they had no idea what their journey would hold—but God did. He was already making a way through what they would soon face.

Tyler and Ashley now find themselves in an unexpected season. Ashley has just been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that needs aggressive treatment, requiring significant travel back and forth to another state for the next eight months. They are walking forward in faith, trusting God’s plan for their family, their ministry, and Ashley’s healing. Now, they are asking you to pray with them.

🙏 Would you step into their story and intercede with us?

Let’s pray together:

• For Ashley’s healing—ask God to work powerfully through the treatment, completely eliminating every cancer cell. Pray for healing, strength, and peace.

• For endurance and safe travels as they make the long trip back and forth for treatment in the coming months.

• For their church and leaders as they step up in new ways. God has been preparing their leaders for this moment. Pray for them as they take on more responsibility, and thank God for raising up circuit preachers who are ready to step in.

• For their children—that they would be resilient, comforted, and surrounded by support and deep assurance that they are held in God’s hands, even as life looks different for a season.

💙 Tyler and Ashley have given their lives to sharing the hope of Jesus. Now, in this difficult season, they need the body of Christ to surround them in prayer.

Our November focus is South America and the work of IMB missionaries Don and Maria Friesen. With 46 reservations of M. people tucked into the winding tributaries of the Amazon River system, how can we encourage the Friesens in their work? Start with prayer.

- Pray for the needs of the M. people, many of whom are struggling with a lack of food. Pray the Lord would continue to open ways for the Friesens and teams to provide food baskets, each accompanied by a gospel tract in case they are not able to share verbally with the recipient.

- Pray God would give the Friesens more opportunities to distribute Bibles in local Indigenous schools. This has been a great way to get the gospel to children and families. The Bibles, whether in the English, Spanish, or Portuguese language, become textbooks for the students since the teachers do not have many books with which to teach foreign languages.

- Pray the Living Water would be shared as teams dig more wells in local villages. Ask the Lord to provide for the clean water needs of the M. people through the Friesens and others.

Jason Harris, IMB missionary, said he saw God at work this past summer as hundreds of volunteers worked with his team around the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.

“We are praying for great follow up with those and the many others whom our interns and team members received phone numbers from,” Jason said. “Join us in prayer! And thank you for praying; these victories are a result of a concerted labor of prayer.”

On this day 151 years ago, Lottie Moon sailed for China. Thirty-two-year-old Lottie was appointed as a missionary by the then-called Foreign Mission Board on July 7, 1873, and she sailed for Tengchow, China, on Sept. 1, 1873. She called China home for the next 39 years. Today, her missions legacy continues on through IMB and WMU to the glory of God.

Pray for our missionaries of the week, Kody and Lindsey Aten in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The Atens dreamed of starting a new church in 2021. In 2022, Freedom Church began meeting in a local elementary school. When a few complaints began to make the rounds on social media, the church was pressured to leave.

But God began orchestrating a solution. A Methodist church in town had closed, and the church’s pastor invited Freedom Church to use the building.

Freedom Church has seen God change lives through a variety of free community events. God is building His church through the Atens’ commitment to the gospel.

PRAY God would continue to use Freedom Church to change lives for His sake in Gloucester.
