Join School of Love in partnership with the Drum Majors Alliance for our annual Black History Month Freedom Ride on Saturday, February 15th, from 3:30pm-6:00 pm. The Freedom Ride is a local pilgrimage that explores the untold stories of Black faith, courage, creativity, & power-building in the face of oppression. Quiet as kept, Black Winston-Salem has a rich and beautiful tradition of resistance. We must recover this history t work more effectively for healing & justice in the present. The Drum Majors Alliance has facilitated Freedom Rides since 2012 & hundreds of folks have had this incredible experience. Participants board a bus at the Old Salem Visitor Center and ride to historic sites in Winston-Salem. At each site, stories are lifted that demonstrate - in the words of James Baldwin - that “we are trapped in a history, & a history is trapped in us.”
This particular Freedom Ride is connected to an ongoing faith-rooted project for Black folks in the Triad, NC area called the “Hush Harbor Journey.” Hush Harbors were illegal & secret gatherings of enslaved Africans that were organized in pursuit of healing & liberation.

(PLEASE NOTE: This FREE event is specifically for Black folks to have a community experience. Non-Black comrades are encouraged to support in spirit and be on the lookout for details on an “open-to-all” Freedom Ride in late February.)
