“Prayer Changes Things”
Beloved,
When I was a member of North East Baptist Church in Durham, NC, I sang with the male chorus. The first song that I was asked to lead was entitled “Prayer Will”.
The song’s chorus was “I know that prayer will, prayer will, prayer will change things.”
Beloved, when we pray, we are not seeking a moment to emote our feelings although our prayers may be emotional; we are not seeking to just be heard by others although our prayers may be heard by others; and we are not seeking to get our way although our prayers may reveal what we believe we want and need in a moment.
Beloved, when we pray, we should seek, in the praying moment, to share with God what we are feeling; we should seek, in the praying moment, to invite others into the intimate conversation that we are having with God; and we should seek, in the praying moment, to seek God’s way for our lives despite, despite, despite what we believe that we want or need.
Said another way, beloved, we pray because we believe that God changes things and therefore we pray to God to change things.
James 5:13-16 tells us that prayer can end suffering, heal sickness, and bring forth the forgiveness of sin with the passage ending, “The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.”
Said another way, beloved, “Prayer changes things.”
Beloved, where do you need some change in your life - physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, in your health, in your wealth, in your relationships?
Said another way, beloved, is it time for you to pray?
Beloved, if you know, if you know, if you know that you know that you know that it is time to pray, then pray.
Pray yourself to God. Ask others to pray to God for you. And, pray to God with others.
Why? Because, beloved, prayer, prayer to God, will change things!
And, beloved, as you pray to God, always know that God stands ready to answer your prayers because God loves you and, beloved, I love you too!
Be blessed,
Rev. Cain
