The Early Career Youth Pastor Cohort with Helping Pastors Thrive is underway! The cohort recently gathered for their opening retreat—a time of connection, rest and spiritual formation. Andy Jung shares, "When asked what they were taking home with them at the close of the retreat, one answered 'close to the best version of me.'"

Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit upheld a preliminary injunction that protects CBF churches from unbridled immigration enforcement activity. CBF Executive Coordinator Paul Baxley celebrated today’s ruling:

“Today’s decision is a powerful reaffirmation of the values that have defined the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship from our beginning. We remain steadfast in our commitment to religious liberty, local church autonomy and the clear separation of church and state. For decades, our congregations have faithfully engaged in ministry among immigrants and refugees, offering a bold and courageous witness to the remarkable and relentless love of Christ. We give thanks that the court has preserved these protections while the case moves forward, allowing our congregations to worship and minister freely. While our work continues, we celebrate this important victory as a testament to the bold faith that rises from freedom rather than coercion.”

The CBF of North Carolina (CBFNC) Coordinating Council recently voted to name Randy Carter as Vocational Formation Director. Randy currently serves as pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Durham and as CBFNC’s Welcome Network Director.

In his new role, Randy will serve as CBFNC’s representative to the Center for Calling and Ministry at Campbell University Divinity School. He will continue to serve as the director of the CBFNC Welcome Network.

Randy brings decades of pastoral leadership, deep involvement in the CBFNC community and a passion for helping clergy and laity discern and respond to God’s call. Please join us in congratulating Randy!

This fall, CBF North Carolina is strengthening the connection between theological education and the local church through the new CBFNC Field Education Residency Program!

The inaugural cohort brings together seven divinity students who will serve alongside congregations across the state, gaining hands-on experience in worship, pastoral care, leadership, discipleship and the everyday work of ministry.

• Lani McKnight — First Baptist Church Elkin
• Anjela Monica Opundo — Pritchard Church, Charlotte
• Furaha Espoir — Boiling Springs Baptist Church
• Shonda Orr — Providence Baptist Church - Charlotte, NC
• Benjamin Wright — Westwood Baptist Church, Cary
• Lara Howell — Watts Street Baptist Church, Durham

We’re grateful for these emerging leaders and the congregations helping nurture their call to ministry. We look forward to seeing how God works through this year of learning, service and shared ministry.
