NEVER FORGET!

Today is the 26th birthday of our beautiful goddaughter, Madison Mabe.
25 years ago today, we were on vacation when we were awoken with the news of the cowardly attack on America by terrorists. The hole in our hearts felt as large as the holes left in the ground when the twin towers fell. Three thousand people murdered by Satan's demonic emissaries. The seeds of this terror started thousands of years ago with Lucifer, the "son of the morning!"
The following scripture in Isaiah shows the account of a created being who thought that he could banish God and take over Heaven...

Isaiah 14:12-15 KJV
[12] How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! [13] For thou hast said in thine heart, I WILL ascend into heaven, I WILL exalt my throne above the stars of God: I WILL sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: [14] I WILL ascend above the heights of the clouds; I WILL be like the most High. [15] Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."
Verse 15 told Satan just how wrong he was!

Thanks be to God, as He gave a more detailed explanation of how He handled, and still is handling Satan...

Ezekiel 28:15-19 KJV
[15] Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. [16] By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I WILL cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I WILL destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. [17] Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I WILL cast thee to the ground, I WILL lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. [18] Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore WILL I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I WILL bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. [19] All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more."

Satan won a battle on this day 26 years ago, but he knew long before any of us were ever born that his foolish pride had caused him to lose the war of good and evil. Revelation 20:9-10 tells us...

[9] And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. [10] And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

God has more "I WILLS" than the devil, we must be ever vigilant because, even though Satan knows that he has already lost the war, there are still many battles that we will fight with him until the Lord takes us home. Let's NEVER FORGET!

NO CONFUSION, NO CONTROVERSY, NO CALAMITY

[Today's scripture reading: 1 Timothy 3:14-16]

Anybody with just a little bit of common sense who reads God's word in a studious manner knows that it was not just haphazardly thrown together.
Today's scripture embodies the entire gospel wrapped up in one neat little package, and there is no confusion, no controversy, and no calamity involved in its infallible inerriance.
In John 1:1-3, the Word (Pre-incarnate Jesus) became, or was manifested in the flesh.
In Luke 3:22, Jesus was justified in the spirit after his earthly baptism:

"And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased".
Luke 3:22 KJV

Jesus was seen of angels, and they ministered to him after his 40 days of prayer and fasting in the wilderness just before the beginning of his earthly ministry.
He was preached to the Gentiles by the Apostle Paul and others, and after he had given the Apostles his final commandment, he was taken up in a cloud out of their sight. (Acts 1:2-11)

Yes, Jesus is the Word incarnate for the salvation of the whole world. Praise his holy name! 🙌🏻

A COUPLE OF MISSES

[Today's Scripture reading: Malachi 3:1-12]

For most of us, we pick up little phrases or sayings that we like to repeat at specific times. My current favorite, in India vernacular, is, "That Not Good!"
Years ago, there was a 'sitcom' on TV called "Get "Smart" about a bumbling detective named Maxwell Smart, AKA, Agent 86. Each time he got close to getting something right, he would say, "Missed it by That Much!"
The picture on the right, below, is of my car about 12 years ago. It's a bit hard to see, but I missed running into my brother's trailer hitch by about 2 inches when I parked my car. I missed it by that much.' (Miss #1)

Today's highlighted scripture tells us to bring our tithes into the storehouse, the church. If we give with the right heart attitude, we are promised several things in verse 11, one of which is to 'rebuke the devourer.' Sometimes it's making material things last far beyond the time that they should, but in the case of my car (and my life) the Lord had protected it from damage that would have caused me a financial burden. God's divine protection was on the ball that day!

Are you giving back to the Lord that which he has required of his children? There are many verses in the Bible that tell us of God's goodness to us when we give our time, our talents, our tithe...and offering, our testimony, and our temple [body] back to him for his use and glory. Are you missing (Miss #2) all of the blessings and protection that God has to offer? Maybe it's time for a spiritual health check. Selah

A REFRESHING REVIVAL

[Today's scripture reading: Acts Chapter 3]

There are specific passages and words to which we need to pay close attention. One of them is when you see them used repeatedly throughout the Bible; The other instance is when we only see them one time.
The word 'refreshing' in today's scripture is used only once in the entire New Testament. From the Greek word anapsuxis, pronounced an-aps'-ook-sis, it means "a recovery of breath," that is, 'revival' in the sense that one's soul is refreshed and revived to the point that it was when God created Adam and Eve in the pristine form of newness.

Earlier in Chapter 3, Peter and John had healed the lame man at the gate of the temple, which was called Beautiful. What a great picture of salvation: the man was lame from his birth, but he was given a healing that rendered void his lame condition and given a new life that he had never experienced! The man was not lame because of his own fault or for any wrong that he had done. It was the curse of sin that had been passed down through the ages because of man in the Garden of Eden that caused the man to be lame spiritually and physically; his healing glorified Jesus Christ, who died for all.

Are you spiritually crippled today? Take the advice of the Apostle Peter to repent and be converted for the refreshing of your soul. Selah!

"I WISH WE'D ALL BEEN READY"

[Today's Scripture reading: Matthew 24:35-51]

Last Friday, September 3rd, I went to Costco to pick up my prescriptions, and I was greeted with a larger-than-life Santa Claus and snowman. I'm wondering sometimes why they even take the decorations down after Christmas has passed.
Three years ago, my sweet sister, Brenda Streett, sent me the following adaptation of "The Night Before Christmas" that deals with the Rapture/second coming of Christ. It's a very sobering reminder to those who choose to put off getting saved, as Felix told the Apostle Paul in Acts 24:25,
"And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee."

*"Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the place,
Not a creature was praying, not one on their face.
Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care,
In hopes that Jesus would not come there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not one ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And Mom, in her rocker with baby on her lap,
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.
When out of the East, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray,
I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!
The light of His face made me cover my head,
It was Jesus returning just like He had said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life, which He held in His hand,
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
When He said, "It's not here," my head hung in shame.
The people whose names had been written with love,
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready, He rose without a sound,
While all the rest were left standing around.
I fell to my knees, but it was too late,
I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood, and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.
In the words of this poem, the meaning is clear,
The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
There's only one life, and when comes the last call,
We'll find that the Bible was true after all!
"I did not write this, but I wanted to share it! This gave me chills. It’s a good reminder that now is the time to seek God. One day soon, it’ll be too late!"

Lastly, please pay close attention to the words of a song by Larry Norman that I heard for the first time over 50 years ago, "I Wish We'd All Been Ready."

THE KEEPER

[Today's Scripture reading: Philippians 4:4-19]

Today's Scripture is a marvelously comforting and settled promise to us as believers. Verse 6 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. The Lord has given us the remedy for the worries and fears in our daily lives. The phrase, 'careful' is the Lord telling us not to be anxious, because in verse 7, He promises to keep us, or surround us with peace. The word 'keep' is a correlation to a garrison guard at the time that these scriptures were written. A garrison guard was charged with keeping the prisoners surrounded by every means available to keep them from escaping. The responsibility of keeping the prisoners securely in jail came with the ominous consequence that the guards would lose their own lives if they allowed a prisoner to escape.

There's joy and comfort in my soul today because I know that my Heavenly Father is keeping me safe in His hand, surrounding me with a love that will let go. Christian friends, aren't you glad that we have the best keeper in the universe?

LISTEN UP!

[Today's Scripture reading: Psalm 85:1-13]

Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who is not really listening because they are "chomping at the bits" to give their opinion even before you had finished what you had to say to them? I think that most of us have been on both sides of that conversation at one time or another.

Sometimes, when the Lord tries to speak to us through the Holy Spirit, we don't receive everything He wants to tell us because we are too busy trying to give Him our own opinion of the matter. Conversely, there are many times when we are trying to talk with the Lord in prayer, Satan is the one who is doing his best to distract us with mundane thoughts to take our finite minds away from what we are trying to say to Him.

God gives us verses throughout the Bible to help us know the great value of speaking with Him heart to heart. One of my favorites is Jeremiah 33:3...
"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
We are also admonished to go to our "closet," or private place, free from distraction...
Matthew 6:6 KJV
[6] "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."

The bottom line is that we pray without distraction, and when the Lord is speaking to us, "Listen Up!"

YES, HE WILL!

[Today's Scripture reading: Deuteronomy 31:1-8]

Just a few notes about how our Lord cares for us. The constant care of our Lord is one of the greatest promises in the Bible! I experienced the depth of His care during a very strong oppression from Satan last evening as I tried to sleep. I got up and prayed for a while, asking my Lord for relief and peace... even asking Him to "bind the strong man." The Lord almost immediately, it seemed, filled my entire being with the promised peace that passes all understanding. I went back to bed and experienced the most peaceful and restorative sleep, almost 11 hours, that I have had in many years.

Whatever you're going through right now as a child of God, you can be sure that our Heavenly Father loves, you, cares for you, and will give you that special peace if you will go to Him in prayer.

SATAN'S PAWN SHOP

[Today's Scripture reading: Luke 15:11-32]

When I was growing up, there were times when Daddy had to take some of our family's belongings to the local Pawn Shop in order to pay a light bill, a heating bill, or sometimes to buy enough groceries to feed a family of nine people. Because of the confiscatory loan rates, Daddy would take on extra work so he could redeem the items before the interest accumulated to the point that he couldn't get the pawned items back.

Today's Scripture reading is the very familiar passage about the Prodigal son. His thoughts of wanting to know the ways of the world had overridden the love and safety that his father had provided for him. The Bible doesn't give us a time frame, but it wasn't long before the young man had squandered his inheritance. What he didn't realize was that he had pawned his most precious belongings to Satan's Pawn Shop in favor of "riotous living." When he had wasted all because of his moral lax, there was no way for him to redeem what he had pawned to Satan.. the cost was too great! He didn't sell his soul to the devil, but he had forfeited all of the things his father had given him.

We have to be sure that we don't pawn our testimony to Satan for a few moments of pleasure or riotous living outside of the boundaries set by our Heavenly Father. We are told that, when the Prodigal son reached the bottom of the bottom, he "came to himself" and realized that his father was right where he left him. He realized that all he had left was the love of who welcomed him home with welcoming arms. He couldn't change what he lost in the devil's pawn shop, but he was back where he belonged in his father's arms. Are you away from the Father? Faintly in the distance, you can hear him saying, "Come home, my child, come home."

ANEMIC CHRISTIANS

[Today's Scripture reading: 1 Peter 2:1-12]

About 30 years ago, we introduced my father-in-law to speckled butter beans. He called them "anemic beans" because they looked a bit pale to him. As I thought about that this morning, I began to think of how many Christian people who are deficient in vitamins B and J (Bible and Jesus).

There is no growth without nourishment. Newborn babies can't grow bigger and stronger if they are malnourished. Today's scripture tells us that we should have an insatiable thirst for the "milk of the word" for spiritual growth. In the beatitudes written in Matthew 5:6, we are told, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

As we grow, we can "reproduce" ourselves by planting the seed of the gospel in others. In Colossians 3:16, we are told to:
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

An anemic Christian who is too weak in spiritual matters doesn't even have the strength or knowledge within himself to call on the Lord to help him/her fight against "the world, the flesh, and the devil!"
If we grow strong in the things of the Lord, then we can teach and show others through our own daily lives how to become more productive and happy Christians. Are you spiritually anemic? Feast on the bread of life and the milk of His word for a well-balanced meal of righteousness. Selah.
