WHEN GOD SWEETENS THE POT!

[Today's Scripture reading: John 6:30-40]

Yesterday was a day that I would not want to repeat. Today, I was scheduled to have an arthroscopy on my knee, but the message came yesterday that someone in the doctor's office didn't send the pr-eauthorizatin request in a timely manner, so the surgery had to be rescheduled... Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week. I was not a happy camper!'

This morning, as I was looking through memories on FB, the Lord did not just fill my cup, but He filled a pot for me and sweetened it with, precious, wonderful memories of family at friends who have already reached their heavenly homes. He then reminded me that I will be forever reunited with them when my pilgrimage on earth is done. I miss them now but I'll see them in "The Sweet By and By!"

A PLAIN AIR RIDE

[Today's Scripture reading: 1 Thessalonians chapter 4:13-18]

I'm looking toward the sky and listening for the trumpet. It won't be a bird, it won't be a plane, it won't be 'Superman', it will be my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! I love the phrase, "I'm not looking for an airplane ride, I'm looking forward to a plain air ride"!
Are you ready? He's coming soon!

Today's highlighted Scripture tells us,
for the benefit of the Christian, we are told in 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17, "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord, himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." In verse 18, we are told to "comfort one another with these words."

It is described in detail in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 in verses 33 and forward. To us, as Christians, the mystery is revealed..."Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."

The coming of Christ is imminent! To the unsaved, the Rapture will be a mystery that they can not understand. They will not hear the trumpet sound. They will not hear the shout, "Come up hither!" We must ready ourselves as we are commanded to 'love his coming,' and we must help others be ready by spreading the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! Selah!

THE PUTRID STENCH OF HYPOCRISY

[Today's scripture reading: John 11:1-44]

A few years ago, we had a house full of family at our home for Thanksgiving. After a great meal, there were more people than usual trying to help clean up the kitchen, and unbeknownst to us all, the deviled egg container was stowed away with four eggs still in it. It wasn't until Christmas Eve that my wife discovered the leftover eggs, and the best way I can describe the smell is putrid; a smell that would cause a skunk to hold his nose!

I'm sure that most folks are familiar with the account where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. God always does things on His time schedule, and no matter what we think in our minds, he is never too late. By the time he came from Jerusalem to Bethany, Lazarus had died and been buried. The lack of faith on the part of Lazarus' family and friends had caused them to, in essence, blame Jesus for Lazarus' death.

We are often prone to blame the Lord when we don't get what we want from him, exactly when we want it. The fact that Mary and Martha were weeping in delusion was not the tipping point, but rather all of the "paid mourners", the Delegation of Doubters in verse 33 that caused him to groan in his spirit and be troubled. It was the putrid stench of their hypocrisy, not that of Lazarus' dead body that rose up in the nostrils of our Lord.

Sometimes, the Lord has to let us go until the putrid stench of our own odorous sin rises in our nostrils and causes us to "come to ourselves" and decide that it's time for a change. Just as the stench of death left Lazarus when Jesus raised him from the grave, the stench of our sin will leave us when we come to him for forgiveness and blessing. As always, He's never too early, and he's never too late. Selah!

I'M FREE!

[Today's Scripture reading: Galatians 5:1-18]

Today is Flag Day in America. Our flag, "Old Glory," is a standard, a banner, and a symbol that brings remembrance of the battles the men and women have fought, some with the ultimate sacrifice, to make and keep our country free!

Today's highlighted scripture tells us that we are free from sin and bo***ge. It tells us of another liberty that can only be obtained through the horrific battle that Jesus Christ fought and won over sin and the grave. It's the liberty our Lord has told us that can never be rented from our Heavenly Father's hand.

With spiritual liberty, we also have the admonition and warning to "stand fast" against the things that can entangle us in the bo***ge of the flesh. Verse 16 of today's scripture states that if we walk in the Spirit, we will win the victory over the flesh! Today, we have a choice. We have a challenge to follow our all-powerful Commander in Chief, Jesus Christ. He's the Victor, and He's the Validation that our souls are secured in Heaven by the "Captain of the Lord of Hosts!" Thank God, I'm Free! Selah

IT'S NOT ABOUT ME

[Today's Scripture reading: Colossians1:1-28]

There are times in our lives that we allow our fleshly desires to accept praise for some deeds we have done as Christians. It's easy to do, but we are told in the Bible that our God inhabits praise, and He, not us, is the One who should receive praise because of our salvation as stated in Psalm 128:21...

"I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation."

The Bible also teaches us that our Lord considers our praise as a sacrifice to him for his goodness to us...

"By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name."
Hebrews 13:15 KJV

Today's highlighted scripture tells us it's not me (us), but rather "Christ in you"! He is the only one who is "the hope of glory."
God is worthy of our praise, so let's not forget to honor him for who he is and all that he has done for us. Selah

BOTTLE-FED CHRISTIANS

[Today's Scripture reading: 1 Corinthians 3:1-15]

Over the years, I've watched some children throw temper tantrums in a store over a toy that they wanted their parents to buy them, sometimes already having a toy in each that they were promised.
If the parent gave them the toy to stop them from crying, they would play with it for a minute or two and go back to doing something else, happy in the fact that they had gotten their way.
Aren't we as Christians like that at times? We see someone else at church get involved in a part of ministry that held no interest for us until someone else started in it and then we run and cry to the Pastor that we wanted that position or responsibility.

Today's highlighted scripture deals with us getting to a point in our Christian lives that we have grown out of being fed pablum and can be fed from "the meat of the word ofGod."
Paul mentioned this in part of today's highlighted scripture...
"And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able."
1 Corinthians 3:1‭-‬2 KJV

Sometimes, we just have to do some spiritual growing up in order for the Lord to use us and bless our efforts for him. Let's learn to be sincere in our service for the Lord without any admixture. Let's not continue to be bottle-fed Christians. Selah

GOOD MORNING, LORD!

[Today's Scripture reading: Psalm 63:1-11]

So many times, our alarm clock wakes us before our bodies are ready to get up at the appointed time. Sometimes, it's hard to do so, but our response should be "instead of saying "Good Lord, it's morning," we should say, "Good morning, Lord."

The first part of today's highlighted scripture says, "early will I seek thee:"
If we wake up realizing how blessed we really are, then we will be ready for prayer and Bible study as we commune with our Heavenly Father who is ready to help us begin the day seeking His will for what's ahead.

Like many people, I am not fond of waking up early, but then I realize that it's the sweetest part of the new day that the Lord has prepared for me. When we apply His statutes to our daily lives, we can say, as David declared in today's highlighted scripture, "Thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee." Oh, what a Savior is mine! Selah.

PROGENITAL BLESSINGS

[Today's Scripture reading: Genesis 49:26-

In today's scripture, as Israel (Jacob) was dying, he appointed these future blessings to Joseph:

1. The favor of God... blessings of heaven and of the earth.
2. The fertility of Joseph's family.
3. The foresight of his future progeny as handed down from his forefathers.

We, as Christians, are abundantly blessed by the Almighty God of the Universe. Let's not forget to thank him daily for the blessings he gives every day. We must always remember that we shouldn't hoard the wonderful things we learn, but use them to teach the generations ahead of us to continue sharing the same opportunities and truths that will reach others with the timeless truth that Jesus still saves lost sinners!

Psalms 68:19 KJV
"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah."

BOOM!

[Today's Scripture reading: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13]

When I was in the 8th grade, I asked my Earth Science teacher the following question... "What happens when an unstoppable, straightline force comes in contact with an immovable, impenetrable object?" I was expecting one of those 10 minute sililoquy-type answers that she normally gave, but she just looked at me and said, "Boom!" It was a one word explanation that there are things that we can't wrap our minds around as finite human beings.

Today's highlighted scripture tells us that there are times, things, and happenings that the Lord knows we can't or won't understand until we are in His presence. He's trying to teach us that we don't need to know the entire blueprint of what He has designed for our lives. He leads us along to help us understand more and more as we mature enough spiritually to handle the specifics of His design. Sadly, we sometimes go astray and get off course from His plan to where He has to modify the specifics. I'm happy to tell you today that our Father in Heaven doesn't just scrap the entire blueprint, He just makes modifications that will help us get back on course. And then He reminds us us again in our scripture today that we will "know even as [I] am also known," and as the old hymn says, "We'll understand it better by and by." What a day that's gonna be! Selah

CONVICTION AND CONVICTIONS

[Today's Scripture reading: John 3:1-21]

Wait a minute... what?? Radio personality Rush Limbaugh used to say, "Words mean things," and he was contextually correct. There are some different iterations and synonyms for the word conviction, and for today's devotion, I will give you three of them...
1. "A formal declaration that someone is guilty of a criminal offense, made by the verdict of a jury or the decision of a judge in a court of law:"
2. "A firmly held belief or opinion:"
3. "The quality of showing that one is firmly convinced of what one believes or says:"

Today's Scripture is a very familiar passage that includes probably the most quoted verse in the Bible, John 3:16. When Nicodemus came to Jesus, it was in the dark of night. The connotation to me is that the guy who held a high pharisaical position came to Jesus with a heart that was in darkness. When Jesus convinced Nicodemus of his need for salvation, his heart was convicted, not that Jesus condemned him, but because verse 18 of today's highlighted scripture tells us that his initial sin nature had already condemned him. Ah, but when Nicodemus saw the light of the world, his acceptance of the Truth transfigured him spiritually to the second part of verse 18 that assured him that, from that point forward, he would never again be condemned!

Lastly, the proof that Nicodemus had adhered to the convictions in his own life through his belief that Jesus was the Christ came to full fruition at His crucifixion. Nicodemus was there with Joseph of Arimathea to ensure that the body of Jesus was taken care of properly.
Has your heart been convicted by the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you now have the convictions in your life that lead you in the path of righteousness? If so, you have been convicted unto convictions! What a great truth from God's word! Selah
