Have you ever thought about it? LEFT WITHOUT WALLS
The Bible says in Proverbs 25:28, "A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls."
It's interesting that God would compare having self-control to a city broken into and LEFT WITHOUT WALLS. What happens to a city or country without walls or without being surrounded by some kind of protection? It can be invaded by an enemy who wants to take away your freedom or bring violence or lawlessness to your way of life. It can open up your citizens to bad influences that go against your belief system. In todays' world of technology, if you think of your laptop, PC or phone as a city, you probably have a "firewall" software to protect it from viruses that can shut your computer down forever or can steal your private information, credit or money. Our Heavenly Father always wants to protect His children and we read about how He had one of His children, Nehemiah, build a wall around Jerusalem for protection, to reinstate worship, and re-establish the identity of God's chosen people. A wall is steadfast, secure, solid, tall, impenetrable, durable, weatherproof, soundproof and retaining. Do you see how all of those descriptive words about a wall could be used to describe a person who has self-control? That person is stabilized in the wisdom and guidance of the Lord (steadfast, secure, solid, tall). When you have self-control, you do not make decisions based on emotion or impulse, you show restraint. (impenetrable, durable). When you have self-control, your behavior is disciplined (weatherproof). When you are self-controlled, you maintain calm, even in stressful situations (soundproof). A self-controlled person practices moderation (retaining). With the Holy Spirit's help we can learn to have self-control and by His grace, we will experience peace within our walls. Choose Jesus, Choose Life!
