FYI - Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) members will be in Winslow's Ft. Hill cemetery, tonight 3 June around 6pm. They will astart work to assess, clean, and possibly repair grave stones of Veterans of the Revolutionary War.

Had a great group of Veterans and family members place roughly 200 flags on Veteran markers and stones. We were able to cover Howard, Drummond, Getchell and Ft. Hill cemeteries. We found and added a few more Veterans to the different lists. Thanks to all those that helped out!

In preparation for Memorial Day, members of Winslow VFW Post 8835 and Winslow cemetery committee members will be meeting up at the VFW parking lot Saturday morning, May 22nd at 9:30am, we will be distributing flags to a few of the town cemeteries.

If you are going to visit any of our town cemeteries, be forewarned...committee members were covered in ticks after checking the more remote cemeteries. Dress appropriately, use repellent, and do tick checks after you leave.

Town of Winslow Cemetery Committee members will be visiting the town owned cemeteries this afternoon. We will be assessing each property for safety and damage, while also identifying potential cleaning and restoration projects for this summer. This is also the start of a formal preservation plan.

You may attend one to four days, August 19-20-21-22, of hands-on work under the leadership of cemetery conservator Joe Farranniini of Grave Stone Matters based in Hoosick Falls, NY. Joe’s profession is rescuing abandoned cemeteries, assessing cemetery work, mapping/documenting cemetery information, resetting stones, straightening stones, repairing broken stones/bases/pins, epoxy repair and infill, resetting fallen monuments, and leading training workshops.

MOCA is a non-profit Maine corporation and is tax exempt under the provisions of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Hey everyone, the Town of Winslow now has a cemetery committee. The team is committed to improving these valuable community facilities. The committee is in the process of drafting cemetery rules for the 11 town owned cemeteries. Committee goals include, mapping, maintenance/safety, and deeds/documentation. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to message me.

We will be working with Winslow Parks and Rec to coordinate spring cleanup efforts and prepare our cemeteries for Memorial Day.

Took advantage of the warm weather to cleanup some Veteran stones. The first one is at Ft Hill Cemetery, Albert B. Rideout, Co. G U.S. Me Volunteers, Coast Guards. The second is at one of the town cemeteries on the Albion road...John R. Palmer, killed Feb 7, 1865, Battle of Hatcher's Run, Virginia. This will be one of the projects we work on next summer.

A big thank you to Steve Soucy for spear heading an effort to revitalize our fallen stones. Volunteers will be working in Winslow cemeteries from August through the end of September 2020. They will work on cleaning, repairing and restoring headstones and markers with deceased dates of 1900 and earlier. If you do not want your family/descendants headstones touched please notify the town office.
