As we begin this week, this prayer from UU Rev. Christin Green invites us to remember that not everything is fixed or final.

There are cycles at work—beneath the surface, within us, around us. Change doesn’t always announce itself, but it is still unfolding.

This prayer calls us to turn toward what is opening—toward the dawn, the thaw, the quiet return of possibility—and to let that movement kindle a hope that can grow stronger than our fears.

Preparing for our future

What does it look like to bless a movement?

In these “Community Beatitudes,” written and delivered in Minneapolis in January 2026, Rev. Ashley Horan names the many people who help build and sustain communities of courage and care.

We’re reminded that movements are not shaped by a single kind of leader. They are woven from many roles, many gifts, and many forms of courage.

“Start building these connections now.”

That guidance, shared by Lena Gardner, a Minneapolis resident and Executive Director of Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism, is one of the clearest lessons coming out of this moment. When communities are connected—when neighbors know one another, share resources, and build relationships—people are safer. And repression becomes harder.

What’s happening in Minneapolis is a reminder that this work doesn’t begin when a crisis arrives. It begins now, in everyday acts of mutual care and solidarity.
