They met in the Eqypt School Building on the banks of the Bayou Macon River near the Low Water Bridge in the winter months. During the summer, they worshipped under a brush arbor near the school. In those days a ferry crossed the river there, thus connecting the two banks. Baptismal services were held at the river. In 1929, the church purchased their present location from Magnolia Methodist Church
and remained Egypt Baptist Church until 1958. At the request of Mr. Pat Mathis, who had been a generous supporter of the church, the congregation agreed to change the name to Magnolia Baptist church. Over the years, the growth of Magnolia Baptist Church has caused a need for a steady stream of additions, renovations and new buildings. In early 1952, the first parsonage was purchased from Mr. The house, located on the other side of the Bayou Macon River was torn down and rebuilt on the church property. Additions are as follows in 1958 a new church building; in 1959 four Sunday School Rooms and a pastor’s study; in 1978 a new church fellowship hall; in 1995 the sanctuary was enlarged and renovated and in 1987 the parking area was paved. 1998 marked the completion of our latest renovations to our sanctuary. The Lord has richly blessed us through the years in each of our endeavors and we shall never cease to praise Him for His goodness, His grace and His love. Magnolia Baptist Church celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1998. This document was taken from a church directory which was published in 1998. A quote from that document was “ As we look back over the years, we recognize the dedication, hard work and sacrifices that have been made by the many faithful members who have been part of the church family. We owe a debt of gratitude to them for all they have done to make Magnolia Baptist Church a lighthouse in the community. These memories will always be kept alive in our hearts.”
