Based on your knowledge of the Bible, what is “the kindness of God” (v.3)?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the covenant-keeping love of Christ! Thank you for the repeated declaration and demonstration of your steadfast love! By your grace, please help us keep all our covenant-promises. Help us take seriously and fulfill our commitments to you, our church, and our spouse (if married). Forgive us for the times and ways we have failed to do so. Or taken our commitments lightly. By your grace, help us to show your loving-kindness to those around us. In Jesus Name, Amen.

We will meet bi-weekly on Wednesday evenings at the field on the corner of Birchbark Rd. and Kuhn Rd. in Carol Stream. (Parking is on Birchbark Rd.) Whether you have been playing Frisbee your whole life, or have never thrown a Frisbee before, we would love for you to join us!

Suggested age is 12 and up.

Families are encouraged to come, and can bring lawn chairs to sit and chat with friends if they don’t want to play. The skill level is usually competitive, but all levels are encouraged to come and we’d love to see you there!

PLEASE NOTE: if under 16, kids must have an adult family member supervising them (please do not drop them off).

Questions: Read 2 Sam. 8 and then discuss the following questions:
1. What are some of your first reactions to this chapter? Why?
2. The historical information here can feel a little dry, but how does it connect with the grand promises and prayers of 2 Sam. 7?
3. What does this tell us about God?
4. What two verses specifically in chapter 8 affirm this truth about God?
5. Who wins all these battles? What is the relationship between God’s work and our work? How do you see this play out in your own life?
6. David fought in literal battles-something most of us will never do. But how does this chapter encourage you in the battles you do face every day?
7. What promises of Scripture can you cling to when victory seems either impossible or unlikely? How can you persevere in the face of defeat or disappointment?
8. What two qualities describe David’s reign in Jerusalem? How can we display similar qualities? At home, at church, in our communities, or in our country?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for this reminder of your great faithfulness to your promises. We thank and praise you for the victories you have already given us. And we pray that as we continue to serve and honor you, you would help us to stand firm in our battles against sin and temptation; against evil and unrighteousness. Through the power of your Spirit, and for your glory, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
