"Global Ministries joins the Council of Bishops in urging prayers for peace as violence unfolds in the Middle East, initiated by military strikes on Iran by the U.S. and Israel. The bishopsβ statement acknowledges the mounting loss of life and the fear and grief that now permeate communities across the region.
Grounded in our Wesleyan commitment to do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God, we reaffirm our calling to be instruments of peace and reconciliation. As people of faith, we stand in solidarity with all who are suffering. We pray in steadfast hope, entrusting to Godβs eternal peace those whose lives have been taken. We pray for God to bring healing to the wounded; strengthen families who mourn; and protect civilians and communities from further harm.
We call on the U.S. and Israeli governments to end military actions in Iran and choose peace over further destruction. We pray for our leaders to be guided by wisdom, compassion, and deep regard for human dignity.
We commit to supporting partners across the region who continue their ministries amid great riskβthose providing humanitarian relief, those advocating for human rights, and those offering care and hope to people experiencing trauma.
We affirm the bishopsβ reminder of Jesusβ uncompromising call: βBlessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of Godβ (Matthew 5:9).
May God guide the difficult work of peacemaking. And may the Spirit strengthen us all to bear witness to peace in a world longing for healing."
