Just want to shout out and thank everyone who helped physically and/or supported by attending our Lenten meals over the last three weeks. These have been incredibly successful and the money raised will help the Northwest Deanery of Catholic Charities with their capital campaign in helping veterans and those in need in our local area.

Respect Life March Prayer Guide
May couples struggling with infertility respect God's design for the creation of new life.

The ability to cooperate with God’s creative power to conceive and raise a child is one of the most profound gifts that a married couple can receive. Yet sadly, about 1 in 6 people face infertility at some point. For some, the joy of conception never happens. Others suffer repeated miscarriages. Still others experience secondary infertility: after giving birth to one or more children, they experience difficulty having another. When couples are unable to bear children, very often there is an understandable feeling of great loss. It is essential to note that the Church has true compassion for couples suffering from infertility and wants to be of real help to them. Many causes of infertility can be addressed through medical assistance that is fully in accord with Catholic teaching.

St. John Paul II affirmed to couples who bear the Cross of infertility, “you are no less loved by God; your love for each other is complete and fruitful when it is open to others.” It is important that couples who experience infertility know that their love is still fruitful and their married life remains filled with meaning. We pray that couples struggling with infertility would know Christ’s closeness in a special way and embrace God’s design as they seek to grow their families.

February Respect for Life Prayer Guide - https://www.respectlife.org/prayer-guides
May married couples generously live out their vocation with openness to the gift of new life.

The month of February has traditionally been dedicated to the Holy Family who provide for us a model of marriage and family life. Mary and Joseph perfectly witness to the gift of new life, welcoming the infant Jesus amidst difficult and challenging circumstances. God designed the love of husband and wife to be so complete, so ordered to a lifetime of communion with Himself and each other, that it is open to creating a new human being whom they will love and care for together. Part of God’s gift to husband and wife is cooperation with His creative power. In participating in this “great mystery” of love that is total, faithful, and fruitful, married couples become a sign of the love between Christ and his Church (Eph 5:32). Couples who cannot bear children still share in this cooperation. As St. John Paul II affirmed to such couples, “you are no less loved by God; your love for each other is complete and fruitful when it is open to others.”

While a couple does not need to seek to have a child in every act of in*******se, they should never act to reject the life-giving power granted by God through the use of contraception. In deliberately acting to suppress their fertility couples harm their unity. For serious reasons, couples may choose to avoid pregnancy for a time or indefinitely. Natural Family Planning (NFP) can help married couples identify and utilize the naturally infertile times in a woman’s cycle, all while cooperating with God’s design.

In today’s culture, living out God’s plan for married love and opening our hearts to the gift of children can be difficult. It can often require great generosity and trust in the Lord. But as Christ repeatedly exhorted, “Be not afraid!” The Church’s teaching on married love is an invitation to let God transform our hearts, knowing God’s plan is far richer than anything the world can offer us.

9 Days for Live Novena - Day 9 https://www.respectlife.org/day-9
May all who defend life find strength and renewal in the Holy Spirit.

God has carefully, tenderly created every person in His own image and likeness, to be in a loving relationship with Himself. From each tiny child knit within a mother’s womb, to every person approaching death, all are loved perfectly and completely by God: “It is therefore a service of love which we are all committed to ensure to our neighbor, that his or her life may be always defended and promoted, especially when it is weak or threatened [emphasis added]” (Evangelium vitae 77).

In a world in which those who are most vulnerable are so often overlooked and disregarded, Christ calls us to embrace and uphold the unconditional dignity of every human life. In answering this call, we help to build “a new culture of life, the fruit of the culture of truth and of love” (EV 77). May the Holy Spirit continually renew us as we strive to faithfully defend God’s gift of life.

May all who defend life find strength and renewal in the Holy Spirit.

9 Days for Life Novena - Day 8 https://www.respectlife.org/day-8
May civic leaders work for the protection of all human life, in every stage and circumstance.

The Declaration of Independence boldly affirms that first among our inalienable rights is the right to life, given to us by the Creator. Yet despite being so solemnly proclaimed, the right to life is today threatened and often denied, particularly at the moments when life is most fragile. Our laws should—first and foremost—protect life. Even with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, many states still do not recognize children in their mothers’ wombs as persons and still claim that abortion is a right. Further, many political leaders work actively to increase access to abortion. Some falsely describe it as health care and even as a basic human right. Laws and policies that legalize or promote an intrinsic evil like abortion violate the virtue of justice.

Those who work as public officials and civic leaders have a duty to serve the common good, and therefore have a profound obligation to safeguard this most fundamental right to life. Through our own prayer, witness, and civic participation, we can encourage our leaders to truly answer their call to protect the rights of all people. For “there can be no true democracy without a recognition of every person’s dignity and without respect for his or her rights” (Evangelium vitae 101).

May civic leaders work for the protection of all human life, in every stage and circumstance.
