She entered this life being the fourth and final puzzle piece of the Gilliam/Cooper Family ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️. She was and still is a happy and bouncy light and perfect for our family. She's ALWAYS known her importance and her place growing up and had us (especially her diddy) wrapped around her finger starting day one 😃😀.

She's gentle/strong, vocal (times VERY vocal) and a wonderful daughter/sister/wife/mom and business woman ❤️. The love and adoration could go on and on but we'll conclude by saying, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 Kimberly Gilliam Mobley!!

Rev. James Collins and the Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church Family seek your prayers for the Simmons/Cooper Families. Mr. Ervin Simmons, son of Gladys Cooper and nephew of Dea. Darrett Cooper, transitioned on yesterday September 3rd after a courageous fight with health challenges. Please give words of encouragement as the families come to grips with this heartbreaking loss.

As per the family, below is the Celebration of Life Service arrangements.

Mrs. Mattie Cherry Providence will be laid to rest Friday, September 11, 2026 at 11:00 am. This will take place at First Baptist Church South Hill, 3633 Galberry Rd., Chesapeake, VA. 23323.

We pray traveling mercies for all attending and again express our appreciation for every act of kindness 🙏🏾.

Earlier this week Sis. Helen White's sister Mrs. Mattie Cherry Providence took the journey from Earth to Glory. Sis. Providence resided in Portsmouth, VA.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be released per the family.

The end of the day is fast approaching but we can't let it conclude without wishing this young lady a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎂 🥳 🎉

Before her health challenges she was very active in the missionary ministry and volunteering with the culinary ministry. She was a helping hand in whatever way she was needed. She still loves a good conversation and visits.

On this blessed and wonderful day a son was born and his birth blessed soooo many🎉🎉. He pastors in Bertie County via Elizabeth City. This humble family man, servant of God, (PROUD) papa and retiree, pastors at none other than Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church!!
He was surprised this weekend was a quaint birthday celebration 🎂🎊🎊at the Hitchin Post in Williamston, NC. His family and church family ate laughed and showered him with love🥰.

From the heart of his daughter, Jeanine Collins Smallwood, are the sentiments that say, "no matter the titles" you're simply our dad and the greatest dad ever!!......

"Today we celebrate you, a faithful servant of God, a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud PaPa, and a true shepherd to so many. Your life is a living testimony of grace, strength, humility, and unwavering faith. Thank you for leading our family and your congregation with wisdom and compassion. The following is an additional update on the sister of our Sis. Betty Spivey.

Ruth Elizabeth Jones, known as "Ruthie" to some, joined her heavenly Father on 08/04/2026 at the beautiful and blessed age of 92. She was the daughter of John and Mary Ervin of York, South Carolina. For 65 years she was the devoted and loving wife of Wilber Jones until his passing.

Ruthie's many accolades included: American Legion Auxiliary Denbigh Unit 368 for 30 years. She served as Chaplin and Historian for the Dept. Of Virginia and was one of their first pages. She was a religious education volunteer at the Regimental Memorial Chapel.

Her strong character and upbringing have instilled an incredible strength in all who knew her. Ruthie's unwavering spiritual growth and passion was seen in every role as sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother and the titles go on ❤️ .

Her life can best be described in First Corinthians 13:13, "And now abide faith, hope, love, these 3 but the greatest of these is love."

Her viewing will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am which then will begin her Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
