Yesterday, I had the honor and privilege of funeralizing a true pillar in the Windsor-Robbinsville community, Mrs. Betty Ford.

Mrs. Betty was a wonderful soul. She was a pip! Her daughter Janice, her other children and grandchildren, along with so many family members and friends, came together to celebrate her life and to grieve her loss.

I was deeply honored that Mrs. Betty had asked for me to funeralize her. I did not take that request lightly. It meant so much to know that the work we are doing in the community is impacting lives. It also affirmed that the work we are doing at Live Well Church is honoring the legacy of those who came before us while continuing to serve the people who are here today.

I’ll never forget when we first came into the Village of Windsor. I was at the church overseeing the renovations—the construction, the painting, the updating of the building, and everything else that needed to be done. Mrs. Janice Ford came by to welcome me into the community. She shared some of the history of the church with me and told me that the church had been there for over 200years. She had seen all kinds of things happen in and around that church.

One day, she came to see me and shared something that was both wonderful and deeply spiritual.

She told me that many of the former members of the church and people from the community who had gone on to be with the Lord had come to her in a dream. In that dream, they told her that I was supposed to be in that community.

I’m telling you, I have never forgotten that!

I often laugh when pastors say they ran from the call of God. I get what they’re saying. I really do. But the truth is, you can try to run, but you cannot outrun God! When God calls you, He has a way of placing you exactly where He wants you to be.

And I guess sometimes we do run because we don’t want to stay where God wants us to be. We want to go where we want to go. We want to do what we want to do. But I’m telling you, there is nothing like being in the will of God and knowing that you are exactly where God wants you to be.

God has a way of working on your heart. He has a way of making you want what He wants for your life. He will work on you until His will becomes your desire.

Yesterday was more than a funeral. It was another reminder that God uses people, families, communities, and even dreams to confirm His purpose and let us know that we are exactly where we are supposed to be.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Betty Ford. We thank God for your life. We thank God for your legacy. We thank God for the love you shared with your family and with this community.

And for it all, we give God praise.
