We believe in spreading the message of God’s extravagant welcome, reaching out especially to the excluded and alienated, the spiritually homeless, the questioning and those who may feel as though there is no place for them in the church. Today, we observe Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the enduring promise of freedom.

As members of the United Church of Christ, we affirm that every person is created in the image of God and worthy of dignity, justice, and love. Juneteenth invites us to remember our nation's history honestly, to honor the resilience and contributions of Black Americans, and to continue the work of building a just and compassionate world.

In the words of the prophet Micah, may we "do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God."
