🫛New on Pod in the Wild 🫛 Our last Wild Saint of May is Bryan Stevenson, American lawyer, social justice activist, and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) in Montgomery, Alabama. We were inspired by his words in Just Mercy and his incredible life working for justice: “Reinhold Niebuhr said, “Love is the motive, but justice is the instrument.” And I am persuaded that hopelessness is the enemy of justice; that if we allow ourselves to become hopeless, we become part of the problem. I think you’re either hopeful, or you’re the problem. There’s no neutral place. Injustice prevails where hopelessness persists. And if I’ve inherited anything from the generation who came before me, I have inherited their wisdom about the necessity of hope.” Take a listen and let us know what you think! Links in bio/comments

Let me be like this tree,
open faced to the gallery of sky,
to the many-fingered wind,
to the creatures who take advantage of it.
Its roots deepen their belonging in the dark mystery,
persevering, insistent without insisting.

Let me be like this river,
receiving and letting go,
flowing with all it's given,
happily generous.

Let me be like this rock,
mountain-born, glacier-borne,
that one day will be sea sand,
but now stands, solid,
a thing of simple beauty.
Let my joy and my calling be that.

Let me be like this day,
open and ready
for what is next.

We're here for some community math again! 🫧 Last month we spen $255 doing 44 loads of laundry. That means we need $150 to make sure we don't turn anyone away this month. We're seeing mostly unhoused men coming from all over the city to get their clothes cleaned. It's become quite a supportive group, helping clean up, showing each other how best to get clothes clean. Truly a beautiful night of community and it's on tomorrow! Pitch in what you can to help make sure our neighbors have clean clothes and dignity. Link in bio/comments.

"I make a point to appreciate all the little things in my life. I go out and smell the air after a good, hard rain. I re-read passages from my favorite books. I hold the little treasures that somebody special gave me. These small actions help remind me that there are so many great, glorious pieces of good in the world." -Dolly Parton, newest Wild Saint of Church in the Wild, where children are leaders and the four-legged are welcome.
