Devotional for Grace Mount Chapel Assembly of God

Text: Psalm 119:9–11
9. How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
10. With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
11. Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.

Reflection
The psalmist asks a timeless question: How can we live clean in a corrupt world? The answer is clear, by anchoring our lives in the Word of God. Holiness is not optional; it is the very identity of God’s children. Just as the Lord declares, “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16), we are called to resist the pressures of the world and walk in purity.

Holiness requires vigilance. The world constantly presses us with temptations, distractions, and compromises. Yet Scripture reminds us that victory is found in daily devotion to God’s Word. To “store up” His Word in our hearts means more than memorization, it means allowing Scripture to shape our thoughts, decisions, and actions.

When Christ’s Word dwells richly in us, holiness becomes not just a command but a lifestyle. We guard our hearts against corruption, and we shine as lights in a dark world. Holiness is not about perfection but about consistent surrender to God’s Spirit, who empowers us to live Christ-like lives.

*Life Application*
- *Guard your purity* : Resist worldly corruption by filtering your choices through Scripture.
- *Daily devotion:* Make the Word your daily bread read, meditate, and apply it.
- *Christ-like living:* Let holiness be seen in your speech, conduct, and relationships.
- *Depend on the Holy Spirit:* Holiness is not human effort but Spirit-enabled transformation. ❤️

Peter ended his letter by encouraging the believers in several ways. He reminded them that God truly cares about his people. They can trust God completely. Looking at some of the great struggles in the Bible, God played the role as an excellent savior and burden bearer. He provided a solution to Hannah’s prayer by giving her Samuel, providing deliverance to the Israelite slaves by sending Moses and even as we have heard and read about the many wonders and miracles of Jesus, we always see He was ever ready to help people in any form of struggle. Mathew 11:28-30, Jesus invites the tired and overwhelmed to come to Him, promising to give them rest and exchanging heavy burdens for a light yoke.

Dear brethren, cast you burdens on Jesus today and He will give you rest. That is why He is our Savior, the prophet Isaiah made known of His many responsibilities when He comes (Isaiah 53:4-5) including being the bearer of our sorrows and griefs. Dear family, commit everything you are going through into the Lord’s hands and see Him grant you rest.

*Let Your Light So Shine Before Men*

Jesus said as recorded in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”, this statement is not a suggestion but a divine mandate. When He said “LET”, that means the burden is on us to let that light we already have shine, Light is meant to be seen. It exposes, guides, warms, and reveals. When Christ calls us “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), He is declaring that His life within us must find expression through our conduct, compassion, and character.

This shining is not about self-promotion; it is about God-revelation. Our good works are not performed to earn applause but to reflect the nature of the One who saved us and now lives in us. Paul reminds us that “it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). As we yield to the Spirit, our lives naturally radiate His grace, kindness in a harsh world, integrity in a corrupt system, purity in a dark culture.

Shining before men means living publicly what Christ has done privately. It means refusing to hide our faith when pressure comes. Jesus warns that no one lights a lamp and hides it under a basket (Matthew 5:15). Likewise, believers are not called to blend in but to stand out, humbly, boldly, lovingly.

Our light shines brightest when our lives align with God’s Word. “The path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:18). As we walk with Christ daily, our light grows, our witness strengthens, and God is glorified. .GMC Devotion
