Bro Denzil Holman went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2023. It’s 2026 and it’s already 2 1/2 years. Greg has been gone now since July 15, 2020. My mom left us November 26, 2001.

We watched an old recording tonight of the Hinson family singing The Lighthouse. It stirred my memories of the birth of the first church we pastored in Norfolk, Virginia. Allow me to tell our story. It was the winter of 1968-69. We were in a home missions service and God spoke to me about Virginia. I was assisting my pastor in Phoenix, Arizona and working on a good paying sales job. God talked to me and I wrote to the district Supt. of Virginia. He replied quickly and mentioned various unchurched cities including Norfolk. The following summer we drove to Norfolk on vacation. When we came home burdened for the city we applied for home missions support. We were approved as Christmas for Christ home missionaries. Our support began the summer of 1970. We arrived in June 1970. While on the trip I felt to name our new church Norfolk Lighthouse Tabernacle. We rented a storefront in a part of town called Snug Harbor. Bro N A Urshan sponsored Harvestime for our new church. We also soon began a 15 minute local radio program. Our theme song was Let the Lower Lights Be Burning. God gave us great revival and many souls found the Lord. We purchased a house and converted it to a church in 1971. When we dedicated our church the song, The Lighthouse was sung. We later opened a youth redemption center coffee house and named it The Lighthouse. Bro Oggs had preached for us and inspired us to open one. Bro and Sis Murray Layne came and dedicated it. Over the years that church grew to near 400 in attendance. Numerous ministers were birthed from that church and two UPCI foreign missionaries. So you can understand why that song The Lighthouse stirred my heart tonight and awakened memories
