Before we spend several weeks in twelve verses, it’s worth hearing the whole letter. Paul does not begin with what we must do. He begins with what God has already done: chosen, redeemed, forgiven, sealed, made alive, saved by grace, brought near, built together. Three chapters and the only command is remember (2:11). Read it in one sitting if you can. It takes about ten minutes.

Devotion for Monday, September 7 - Read Psalm 19
God speaks in two ways, and this psalm demonstrates them both. First, he speaks to everyone. The heavens declare his glory without using a single word (vv. 1–4). No language, no voice, no place on earth outside the reach of it. Anyone who has ever looked up has been told something true about God. But the sky cannot tell you his name.

So God speaks a second time, in his word (vv. 7–11). Notice that this speech is active. It revives the soul. It makes the simple wise. It gives light to the eyes. The sky announces that God is glorious; Scripture tells us who he is and goes to work transforming us.

Today: You’ll likely be outside at some point. Look up. Take a moment and let creation do what David says it does. Then close the day with verse 14 as your prayer.

Was filling up water troughs the other day and these two were making it an absolute nightmare. And during it all, I had some thoughts about how God has been so graceful to me.

Many of us are very familiar with the 23rd Psalm (some of you very, very familiar). It's easy to move quickly because even if you don't know a lot of Bible, you likely have heard these words. As we see how God restores our souls we want to slow down and take in the view as we travel through green pastures, dark valleys, and to a wonderful table, and to hear these glorious words: "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life."

That word follow in Hebrew is radaph, it means to chase, to pursue, to gallop after. The goodness and mercy of God are not trailing quietly behind you. They are in relentless pursuit. Come and join us and hear the good news!

Grab your bike and come get some ice cream! It's Bikes & Ice Cream this Friday (June 26) from 4-6pm at College Park Church. We'll have air (for low tires) and tools on hand if your bike needs a little attention. All ages and all bikes are welcome. A quick note: If you have a gently used bike or bike helmet that your kids have grown out of or is no longer being used, we've started gathering them to share with others!

Paul is a prisoner being marched to Rome to stand trial, and he's been at it for a while through shipwreck, snakebite, and chains. Then believers he has never met hear he's coming and walk out from the city to meet him on the road. Luke records it very clearly: "On seeing them, Paul thanked God and took courage."

Paul’s situation hasn’t changed, he’s still a prisoner and still has to stand before caesar. But the church comes and brought courage with them! Often our worry is that we won’t have the right answers when time comes, however often what people need is our presence.

Is there someone you can walk out to meet this week?

(Historical note: The Forum of Appius is 40 miles from Rome and Three Taverns is 30 miles away.)

It’s hot. Everyone’s thirsty. What do Rebekah, Rachel, Zipporah, and a Samaritan woman have in common? Find out as we fill the water troughs for the horses.

You are welcome to bring a side dish to share or just come and eat. Come meet some neighbors (and invite some neighbors), grab some food, and enjoy a summer evening together.
