Faithfulness is rarely tested in the easy moments. It's tested when following Jesus costs us something.

In Revelation 2:8–11, Jesus speaks to a church facing real suffering and pressure—and His call is simple: Remain faithful.

So this week’s spiritual practice is The Faithfulness Examen.

For the next seven days, take 10 minutes at the end of each day. Read Revelation 2:8–11 slowly, sit with Jesus, and ask:

1️⃣ Where did I experience pressure, fear, or difficulty today?

Where did life feel heavy? Where did I feel anxious, threatened, uncomfortable, or uncertain?

2️⃣ What was I afraid of losing?

Approval? Comfort? Control? Security? Reputation? A relationship? Getting my way?

Sometimes our fears reveal what we’re holding onto most tightly.

3️⃣ Where was I tempted to compromise or seek approval instead of obeying Jesus?

Where did I soften the truth? Stay quiet when I should have spoken? Choose what was easier instead of what was faithful?

4️⃣ What does this passage remind me is true about Jesus?

Before Jesus tells the church in Smyrna what to do, He reminds them who He is. He is the First and the Last. The One who died and came to life. Our faithfulness doesn’t rest on our strength. It rests on the faithfulness of the risen Jesus.

5️⃣ What would the next faithful step look like tomorrow?

Not the next 10 steps. Just the next one.

So this week, slow down at the end of each day. Pay attention to where fear is pulling you. Remember who Jesus is. And ask Him for the courage to take the next faithful step.

Compromise rarely announces itself all at once. More often, it happens slowly. We make a little room. We explain something away. We justify what we know isn’t right. And before long, we’ve learned to live comfortably with something Jesus is calling us to confront.

So this week’s spiritual practice is Scripture + Accountability.

The goal isn’t shame. It’s bringing what’s hidden into the light so Jesus can form us into people who remain faithful to Him.

1️⃣ ASK JESUS TO REVEAL IT
Every evening this week, spend 10 quiet minutes with Jesus and ask: “Jesus, where have I begun making room for compromise?”

And when something comes to mind, resist the temptation to defend it, minimize it, or explain it away. Just bring it honestly before Him.

2️⃣ GO TO SCRIPTURE
Then find a passage of Scripture that speaks directly to that area. Use your Bible and then actually open the Bible and spend time with what God has said.

3️⃣ BRING SOMEONE ELSE IN
The next day, share that struggle with a mature Christian you trust. Tell them where you’re struggling. Ask them to pray with you. Ask them to help you remain accountable.

4️⃣ TAKE A REAL STEP OF REPENTANCE
Don’t stop at recognition. Repentance isn’t merely turning 180 degrees away from sin—it’s turning toward Jesus.

Jesus is offering us something better than anything compromise could ever promise.
